Ex-marine assumes ancient position as ravenmaster of Tower of London

An Afghanistan veteran and former Royal Marine has been announced as the Tower of London’s new ravenmaster - an ancient position responsible for protecting the fortress. 

Michael Chandler, 56, better known as Barney, will look after the birds which have guarded the Thames landmark for 1,000 years.
