Ex-Man United star explains decision to play for free in Spanish third division

  • Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera joined Spanish club Real Zaragoza earlier this month.
  • The Spanish international, 37, who also played for PSG , has agreed to play for free as he will donate his salary to Zaragoza’s foundation.
  • Zaragoza are playing in the third tier of Spanish football now after being relegated last season, but that has not deterred Herrera from signing for them.
  • Explaining his decision to play for free, Herrera told the BBC that he was happy to return to his hometown and that he “wanted to help my club, my team, my city.”
  • Herrera revealed that he has “taken care of my money” and that he considered it a “privilege” to not be concerned about his wages or a contract.
