Ex-Liverpool youngster gets career back on track as special guest visits Dubai training camp

Here is your Liverpool morning digest for Wednesday, December 14.

Ex-Red back on track

Bobby Duncan’s career has ultimately not gone to plan since he left Liverpool in the summer of 2019.

The 21-year-old, who is the cousin of Steven Gerrard, had only joined the Reds 12 months earlier and enjoyed an impressive year in the club’s youth ranks after joining from Manchester City. He’d score 25 goals and record eight assists from 33 appearances for the Under-18s and Under-19s, helping Liverpool win the FA Youth Cup along the way.

Such form saw him handed an Under-21s debut too, while he’d link up with Jurgen Klopp’s first team for pre-season the same summer as his eventual departure - even scoring in a 6-0 pre-season victory over Tranmere Rovers.

The Reds were defeated by Lyon on Sunday evening in the Dubai Super Cup and enter their final knowing Arsenal have already been crowned champions of the competition.

Latest footage from training showed the first-team players and staff in high spirits as they look to get back up to speed for the second half of the current campaign.

Prior to taking charge of a session, Jurgen Klopp was spotted in conversation with Matteo and his wife and appeared to be enjoying their chat. Matteo has spent the last couple of years battling for his health after undergoing surgery on a brain tumour in November 2019. He was declared as fully recovered in April 2020.
