Former Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio has named Kevin Davies as one of the toughest players he ever faced.
The former left-back faced Bolton Wanderers on several occasions and outlined the difficulty of the former Trotters striker. Davies enjoyed drifting to the back post and pinning generally smaller full-backs to assert his dominance in the air.
Alongside Chelsea winger Arjen Robben, Aurelio highlighted the difficulty of facing someone like Davies. He saw the Wanderers striker as an example of the physicality in English football.
“When I first came to Liverpool, I remember games with Bolton Wanderers were really difficult at the beginning," he said. Kevin Davies was always on the right, so it was always a real physical test for me.
"That was really tough in that aspect. Playing against Chelsea and Real Madrid, Arjen Robben was also really difficult to play against. I would say both, to be honest.
“The experience with Davies was the more physical side of English football, while Robben was a really talented and quick player.”
