Carlton Palmer has suggested that Leeds United should be considering Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom as a potential candidate to replace Jesse Marsch.
Heckingbottom spent four months at Leeds during the 2017-18 season after starting his managerial career with a two-year spell at Barnsley. He lasted just four months and was replaced by Marcelo Bielsa in the dugout after registering eight defeats from his 16 games at the helm.
Sheffield United look on course to secure automatic promotion after a blistering season under Heckingbottom, and boast a 10-point cushion and a game in hand over third place Middlesbrough in the Championship rankings.
Former Leeds midfielder Palmer has been impressed by the 'remarkable' job that Heckingbottom has done at Bramall Lane, and believes he could be a financially viable option for the Leeds board.

"I'll throw a name at you and I know I live in Sheffield and they won't be happy," Palmer revealed to talkSPORT. "The job that [Paul] Heckingbottom has done at Sheffield United with Stuart McCall. He's one I'd be looking at, I'll tell you that now. He's done a fantastic job.
"The job he has done is absolutely remarkable at Sheffield United. They're all but going to get promoted to the Premier League and I don't think there would be massive compensation for him if he was to go."
Victor Orta has reportedly travelled to Madrid to 'negotiate a deal' with Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola, while Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has emerged as the new bookmakers' favourite.
West Brom manager and former Leeds assistant and under-23s head coach Carlos Corberan has dropped out of the running after penning a new long-term contract with the Baggies.
Leeds sit 17th in the table after 20 games and are only separated from the relegation zone on goal difference. They are winless in their last seven league games, and have collected just two victories from their last 17 in the Premier League.
