Ex-Hibs boss Jack Ross on Motherwell 'three-man shortlist' as Fir Park club ramp up manager search

Jack Ross is one of three candidates for the Motherwell job with Tommy Wright OUT of the running, according to reports.

The former Hibs and Dundee United gaffer has been out of work since departing Tannadice earlier in the season after a short stint in charge. He is believed to be ready to open talks in the next 48 hours about the vacant Fir Park role alongside two other candidates say the Scottish Sun.

The 46-year-old is eager to get back into the day to day life of management and has picked up a wealth of experience with the likes of Alloa, St Mirren, Sunderland and his time at Easter Road - but he does face stiff competition states the same report. Stand-in boss Stuart Kettlewell picked up a vital three points last night as he guided the relegation threatened side to a big 2-1 win over the Buddies.

He replaced Stevie Hammell in the dugout on an interim basis following his sacking after their Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Scottish Championship outfit Raith Rovers. John Hughes, James McPake and Ian McCall have been linked with the post while interest from England and abroad has also been touted with former Brazil defender Ze Maria rumoured to have applied for the post.

Motherwell's win last night lifted them to ninth in the Premiership standings and three points off bottom club Dundee United - who have played a game less.

Kevin van Veen opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes before Max Johnston put the home side in dreamland with a second with less than 20 minutes on the clock. St Mirren responded four minutes later through Ryan Strain in a whirlwind start at Fir Park.

But there was no more goals as Kettlewell and Co held on for what could prove to be a massive three points in the bid for top flight survival.
