Craig Levein has admitted the Dundee United job 'wasn't right for me'.
The former Scotland and Hearts boss was linked with a sensational return to Tannadice following the sacking of Liam Fox. The Tangerines are in a huge battle to retain their Premiership status for next season and currently sit bottom by two points with just nine games of the season to be played.
United eventually turned to axed Aberdeen gaffer Jim Goodwin until the end of the campaign as they look to get themselves out of trouble at the bottom. Ross County occupy the play-off spot with Kilmarnock one point further ahead in tenth. It is all to play for with a trip to Ibrox to face Rangers next up for the basement boys.

There was strong rumours before Goodwin's arrival that Levein was wanted at Tannadice and the 58-year-old has now responded to those links.
Speaking on Sacked in the Morning, Levein explained: "I will tell you what I can. Let's just say I didn't think the job was for me.
"I loved my time at Dundee United. It was probably one of the most special parts of my managerial career. The affection for the club and supporters in particular.
"I did genuinely want to go back and try help but the set up just wasn't right for me."
Following their trip to Rangers, Dundee United will face Hibs, Motherwell and Livingston ahead of the league split.
The fixtures for the top and bottom six will be revealed once the final placings after 33 matches are determined as the fight for titles, Europe and survival then take centre stage.
