Ex-Giant Rips Team for ‘Malpractice’ in Failing to Protect QB Daniel Jones

Matters are getting worse for the underwhelming Giants offense. Quarterback Daniel Jones became the latest member of the offense to get hurt, having suffered a neck injury in Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins.

New York (1-4) has struggled consistently on offense this season, due in large part to poor offensive line play, a poor running game in the absence of injured star tailback Saquon Barkley and a passing game that has not held up with Jones behind center.

Now, former Giants running back Tiki Barber is mercilessly ripping the team’s offensive line in the wake of Jones’s injury.

“If he can’t stay healthy because of the hits this quarterback is taking, then this $40 million a year contract gets wasted. It’s gone,” Barber said on Evan & Tiki on WFAN-AM in New York. “Daniel Jones is durable. He’s tough. He’s strong. You love the kid because of how he wants to be a winner.

“But he’s getting obliterated, and I don’t know if I would want him back there with this offensive line. … The Giants need to do something different. Otherwise, he’s not going to make it through the season. … It’s malpractice what they’re doing with him and the offensive line. It is so bad. I would be scared to be back there.”

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been sacked 28 times through just five games so far this season.

Jones was sacked six times on Sunday, bringing his total to 28 through five games this season. That puts Jones on a pace to be sacked 95 times this season if he plays in all 17 games. The NFL record is 76 by Houston’s David Carr in 2002.

The Giants are scheduled to play at the Bills on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
