Ex-Fox News Star Receives a Surprise Offer From Russia

Tucker Carlson, the ousted anchor of Fox News, was unemployed for less than a day before he received a job offer.

RT, the state-run news channel in Russia that was known as Russia Today, made an offer to Carlson on its Twitter account only hours after Fox decided to cancel his role as the anchor.

The Moscow-based news channel tweeted on April 24, "Hey @TuckerCarlson, you can always question more with @RT_com."

The channel is banned in the European Union and many other countries.

Carlson's rhetoric included conspiracies about the war in Ukraine.

Russian state media have been staunch supporters of the country's invasion into Ukraine. Carlson's rhetoric has been similar to their ideology that contains conspiracies.

Carlson is well known for criticizing Western allies for supporting Kyiv financially and by providing military aid to Ukraine to fight back against the Russians.

Vladimir Solovyov, a commentator on Russian state TV, supported Carlson joining him in his evening discussion shows and even threw out the idea of the conservative political cable personality running in the next presidential election.

"You have our admiration and support in any endeavor you choose for yourself next, be it running for President of the United States (which you should totally do, by the way) or making an independent media project," he wrote in an email that was shared on his Telegram channel via a screengrab, according to NBC News.

Russian Network Offers Carlson a Job

"We'll happily offer you a job if you wish to carry on as a presenter and host! You are always welcome in Russia and Moscow, we wish you the best of luck."

In addition to the Telegram message, Solovyov wrote another message in English: "Tucker, come join us. You don't have to be afraid of taking the piss out of Biden here," which is a British expression used to make fun of someone.

Speculation has been rampant on Carlson's next career move either in the U.S. or another country.

In 2021, Carlson hosted Fox News from Budapest, the capital of Hungary, for a week. He has interviewed Viktor Orbán, another leader who is a far-right supporter of Russia.

Carlson was the king of Fox cable-TV ratings, transforming it into a prime-time powerhouse since 2016.

Fox Shows Carlson the Door

The network surprised everyone by announcing his departure on April 24, just a few days after the company agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems.

Fox News hosts had wrongfully accused the company of stealing victory in the 2020 presidential election from then-President Donald Trump. The software company sued the network for spreading false accusations that it was at the center of a vast conspiracy to cheat Trump of his victory.

For weeks Fox News hosts, including Carlson, had claimed that Dominion voting machines, used in some states, enabled widespread fraud in favor of the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, who won the presidential election.

But private messaging from those same hosts, uncovered during the discovery process, showed that privately Carlson and others knew those conspiracy theories were false, but that didn't stop them from continuing to hammer on air that Trump was robbed of his victory.
