Andy Burnham has “an openness and energy” that is “very attractive and positive”, former foreign secretary David Miliband has said.

Hailing the “remarkable ability” of the Makerfield MP and likely successor to Sir Keir Starmer in Downing Street, Mr Miliband also said the appointment of former cabinet colleague James Purnell as his chief of staff was “fantastic”.
