Ex-footballer tipped as Scotland's next top male model to follow in footsteps of Martin Compston

After playing an inmate in a jail drama, actor Jaden Baker is now being tipped as Scotland's next top male model.

The Royal Conservatoire graduate, who starred in Channel 4's Screw, is the face of Adidas and has the country's biggest brands clamouring to book him.

But the 23-year-old ex-footballer said his dream remains to act - and follow in the footsteps of football player turned TV favourite Martin Compston.

Jaden, who grew up in London's east end but lives in Glasgow, said: "My dream is to follow in the footsteps of Martin and make it big in the world of TV dramas.

"Acting is my first passion but I also love my modelling work - they complement each other.

"When I was younger, I wanted to be a footballer. I played for Lea Valley United and I had trials for Fulham but I blew my chances. I was a winger and they wanted to play me at centre back.

"I was young and quite immature and didn't want to play in defence no matter what the coach said. I wouldn't take a telling. I also dislocated my knee four times.

"Not making the Fulham team allowed me to follow the acting path. I truly believe that is what I was destined to be."

Jaden's uncle worked for the BBC and helped him get an audition for the CBBC show The Dumping Ground on his 15th birthday. He didn't get the job but he was spotted by an agent and soon auditioned for and got a Disney Channel commercial.

He went on to become the face of Adidas when he was 17. He eventually made it to the Conservatoire after a gap year and going back to do his A-Levels.

He said: "My mum Patrice encouraged me to come to Scotland and it has turned out to be the best decision I ever made."

Jaden's family were delighted when he won the part in Julia Donaldson's Princess Mirror- Belle series and over the moon when he was chosen for Screw, which was filmed in Glasgow.

The actor, who missed out on a role in Bridgerton, said: "Playing an arms dealer in Screw was the most amazing experience.

"Working alongside Nina Sosanya and Jamie Lee O'Donnell was just incredible. I learned so much by just watching them.

"Actors who study in Scotland tend to do well. Just look at Nguti Gatwa, who is the new Doctor Who. I'm hoping I will continue to land bigger and bigger roles."

Jaden, who is signed to top modelling agency Colours, said: "I'm an actor who models and I'm loving it."

Alison Bruce, of Colours, said: "His future looks bright and we hope he fulfils his acting dreams."
