Ex-Falcons, Hawai’i Coach June Jones Arrested for Suspected DUI, per Report

Former Hawai’i head coach June Jones was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Honolulu on Friday night, according to Stephen Tsai of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Jones was released after posting a $500 bail.

“I was speeding, and got stopped,” Jones said, via Tsai. “I was coming from eating dinner. That’s all I need to say right now.”

Jones, 70, played four seasons as a quarterback in the NFL and one in the CFL before entering coaching. He bounced around as an offensive assistant in college and the NFL, then became the Falcons‘ head coach from 1994 to ’96, cpmpiling a 19-29 record. He also served as interim head coach of the Chargers in ’98 after the firing of Kevin Gilbride. In 1999, the Rainbow Warriors hired him as their head coach, and Jones would lead them to a 76-41 record with four bowl wins in nine seasons.

Following the 2007 season, when Hawai’i went 12-1, SMU hired Jones away to fill its head coaching vacancy. Jones went just 36-43 in seven seasons with the Mustangs.

After SMU fired him, Jones worked as head coach of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats for two seasons. Then he was head coach and general manager of the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks. Most recently, he spent the 2023 season as offensive coordinator of the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons.
