Ex-Emmerdale star Shree Murphy says 'maybe I should have fought' to stop Tricia Dingle's dramatic death

Former Emmerdale favourite Shree Murphy has spoken about how sad she was about her character Tricia being killed off.

As Emmerdale fans might recall, Tricia Dingle, played by Shree Murphy, died in 2004. Her death came after terrible weather hit the village.

Shree, who is married to former Leeds United and Liverpool footballer Harry Kewell, said perhaps 'she should have fought' to stay and added that she loves it when old characters make a return in soapland.

As reported by Digital Spy, Shree said: “I was just sad because I loved playing Tricia so much. I love it when any old character comes back to a soap.”

Possibly a return of Tricia might be out of the question but perhaps Tricia's legacy could be worked into the soap’s 50th-anniversary storylines. Emmerdale bosses have promised lots of surprises later this year as part of the commemorations.

Shree, 46, has spoken with sadness at the her character being killed off. She explained: "Now when I look at it, I think maybe I should have fought and said 'No, I will come back, I just need some time out'.

“But then I look at all the other things I've done since I've left Emmerdale. Things happen for a reason, don't they?”

Since leaving Emmerdale, Shree has appeared in Hollyoaks, Neighbours and The Royal. She’s also competed in I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and been a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women.

Another former Emmerdale star has recently spoken of the prospect of his character returning from the dead. Ian Kelsey, 55, played Dave Glover in Emmerdale between 1994 and 2001. As fans will likely remember, Dave had an affair with Kim Tate.

The character of Dave died after injuries from a fire. Despite this, Ian would love an opportunity to return to Emmerdale.

“I suppose what needs to happen is Dave Glover's twin brother needs to come back and claims rights to Jamie (Tate),” he said. “He'd have a different walk but he'd look quite like Dave.”
