Haley Van Erem joined the Justice Department in 2015 and spent close to a decade litigating disability-rights cases in the Civil Rights Division's Special Litigation Section. In March 2025, she and several colleagues were reassigned without warning to the Department of Health and Human Services, where they were told to help review reports of antisemitic conduct at medical-school graduation ceremonies. She left government service at the end of May 2025, telling colleagues she could no longer take part in inquiries she viewed as politically driven and legally unsupportable. On Monday, her attorneys at the Government Accountability Project filed her account with congressional committees and federal inspectors general. Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, made the complaint public a day later, as first reported by CBS News.
