Ex-Doctor Who writer Mark Gatiss suggests show might not return after being put out to tender: ‘We’ve been here before’

Ex-Doctor Who writer Mark Gatiss has given a “doomy” verdict on the series’ future, following the announcement earlier this year that the BBC show was being put out to tender.

It was announced earlier this year that plans for a 2026 Christmas special had been abandoned, with showrunner Russell T Davies departing the show in order for Doctor Who to be put out to “competitive tender” – whereby production companies pitch ideas to take stewardship of the show.
