Ex-Colorado Player Says Son Was Disrespected on Recruiting Visit to Boulder

Colorado’s resurgence under Deion Sanders has attracted a number of top recruits who want to be a part of the new culture in Boulder. However, with so many high school players visiting the program, it seems Colorado may have dropped the ball with one player in particular.

Anwawn Jones, a former Colorado football player who spent a season with the Buffaloes in 2000, took to social media to criticize Colorado’s treatment of his son during a recent recruiting visit, saying the program kicked Marco Jones out of the recruiting area during a game.

“Marco explained who [he] was, they said he wasn’t on the list and was asked to leave,” Anwawn wrote Thursday on X, formerly known as Twitter. “You kicked my son and his coach out of the facility and didn’t care that they traveled from [California].”

Jones praised Sanders in the post and didn’t want to take anything away from what the coach has done in his first year. Still, the former defensive end was upset at how Marco, a four-star linebacker from San Ramon Valley High in Danville, Calif., was treated on his visit to the CU campus.

“I know it’s busy in Boulder with all of the cool things happening, but know, you treated a true blue chipper and the son of a CU buff like a scrub,” Jones added. “I’m sad because Marco would have been a great Buff, but the Buffs don’t know who he is.”

Despite the incident, Jones said he will continue supporting Colorado, although he expressed disappointment that his son won’t be committing to the Buffaloes.

“I’m going to support all of the recruits that come to CU, it’s too bad Marco won’t be one of them,” he said. “This one must have slipped through the cracks.”
