Ex-Chicago cop Jason Van Dyke released from prison for murder of Laquan McDonald — to public outcry for him to be back behind bars

Ex-Chicago cop Jason Van Dyke was released from custody early Thursday after serving three years in prison for the murder of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, and faced condemnation from community leaders and politicians who want him back behind bars.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot called his release a “supreme disappointment.” Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said it was a “gross miscarriage of justice.”
