Ex-Celtic youth keeper is Airdrie's third signing of the day

Airdrie have made their third signing of the day as goalkeeper Josh Rae comes in from Queen of the South on a one-year deal.

The Diamonds revealed they have nabbed the 21-year-old despite "high-level interest from south of the border".

Rae, from Cumbernauld, was with Queen of the South last season and has also played for Peterhead, having been part of the youth set-up at Hamilton Accies, Celtic and Leeds United.

The keeper is Airdrie's third deal of the day, following Gabby McGill and Justin Devenny, with boss Rhys McCabe also having signed defender Cammy Ballantyne in from Montrose and bringing back goalkeeper David Hutton in a player/coach role.

Rae told Airdrie's website: "I’m delighted to be here, just buzzing to get started and get the games going.

"I came here because I want to be at the top of the league pushing to win stuff, and to play as many games as possible and do as well as I can possibly do.”

McCabe told the club's website: "Josh matches the description of what we’re wanting - he’s a big presence, he’s good with his feet and he’s got a good CV so far.

"We’re delighted to add Josh to the squad as we continue to build for the upcoming season.”
