Ex Celtic WAG Lisa Hague providing support to Manchester United following Cristiano Ronaldo's baby death

Former Celtic WAG Lisa Hague has met with Manchester United following news of Cristiano Ronaldo's baby son's death.

Grief coach Lisa set up a counselling service after losing her own baby girl Lola to stillbirth 14 years ago.

She recently set up a series of grief retreats to help those going through their own trauma, which she rungs alongside fiance Kris Commons.

Hearing the news this week that the footballer had lost his twin son while his partner Georgina Rodriguez was in labour and gave birth to a twin girl, Lisa and Kris sprung into action to contact the team and offer their support.

She spend yesterday afternoon at the club, speaking about what kind of assistance she and Kris can provide for Ronaldo's team and giving them advice in how to deal with the issues surrounding grief.

She exclusively told The Daily Record: "I was devastated when I heard one of Ronaldo's babies had died during labour.

"I just got in the car and put myself out there and we wish someone had done that for us at the time.

"I went in as Lisa the grief coach who has been through this and can offer help.

"My first thought was that I hoped the hospital they are in is well enough equipped to deal with this because, from my experience of losing a baby, you have only got a certain amount of time to make memories and use a cuddle cot.

"When we lost our baby Lola, were were in a Nottingham hospital and Chris was playing for Nottingham and they felt they needed to respect our privacy because of who he was, but that worries me - because you need to get support.

"I had one bolshy midwife and she said she was going to take a picture of Lola even though I didn't want one at the time. I'm now so grateful she took it rather than leave it to me otherwise I wouldn't have a picture. I hope they have got extra care and wish I could go and help them."

Lisa was keen to touch base with Manchester United over specific guidance she can offer to ensure players and staff are able to reach out to their colleague and his family when he returns to work.

She said: "I know they will be surrounded by the best of psychologists and therapists but Kris and I have actually gone through this so see it differently.

"Yesterday they were having a baby and today they are not.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is not the same man today as he was yesterday - 100 per cent he's not the same person anymore.

"As much as I'd love to support Cristiano and his partner, I'm keen to support the dressing room for him coming back and to support Manchester United for him coming back cause it's incredibly isolating.

"When you have profile people are on eggshells to not say the wrong thing and brush everything under the carpet.

"The level of support I'm talking about is not always there.

"This morning I looked at my memory box and I saw we got a card from the reverend of the club. That was obviously 14 years ago and things have changed but it needs to be more than a card and an 'are you ok?"

Lisa said former Celtic star Kris is also "keen" to get into the club and offer help from his perspective and experience.

She added: "Kris is also keen to go into Man U and speak to anyone who needs it and say we have done this and gone through this and it's incredibly isolating.

"When Kris went back to work, the players asked him: 'Alright Kris? I heard what happened' then it got left and that is not enough.

"I'd love to speak to the players Ronaldo has more chemistry with so they ask him regularly.

"I'm happy to guide them with what not to say.

"Ronaldo and his family will be inundated with 'at least you got to bring one home' type of comments.

"I always say to people 'never start with 'at least''. Here's what not to say and here's what most supportive.

"I always say, for example, 'anything I can say is inadequate but I'm here to support you. I just want you to know I'm here.

"As much as Ronaldo has a partner, men and women grieve very differently .

"Kris also played football between Lola dying and the funeral and luckily social media was not massive or people could have been judgemental. He was doing what felt right to him and there is no right and wrong way to grieve. He wanted to feel a bit of normality and I supported him with that.

"You grieve together but it's paramount to grieve how you want and if sticking to routine and talking about it helps you then that can work."

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo’s family thanked Liverpool fans for their show of support towards the Manchester United striker and his partner following the tragic death.

The Anfield supporters sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone” in the seventh minute of Tuesday night’s league clash between the two teams and joined fans of their fierce rivals in an impeccably-respected minute’s applause.

Cristiano’s Madeira-based sister Elma showed her emotion overnight by publishing footage of the gesture on her social media and writing: “Thank you for this Liverpool. We will never forget what you did today." She finished her message with a heart emoticon.

The Portugal international and his 28-year-old partner Georgina Rodriguez announced on Monday night one of their twins had died. They said in a heart-wrenching statement: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.

"It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

The couple had announced last October they were expecting twins and Spaniard Georgina revealed she was carrying a boy and girl in a touching video featuring their daughter Alana Martina, four, and Cristiano’s three children Eva, Mateo and Cristiano Jr.
