Ex-Celtic star Jeremie Frimpong hits goal and assist in consecutive Leverkusen Bundesliga games

Jeremie Frimpong once again played a major role for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga as he notched a goal and assist for the second game running.

The former Celtic star stepped up again as his side responded from going a goal behind at Werder Bremen to make it three wins in the space of a week after l ast week's 4-1 triumph over Hertha Berlin and a 2-0 win over Ferencvaros in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash.

Marvin Ducksch handed the hosts the lead but Leverkusen responded almost instantly with a leveller just four minutes later. Frimpong's ball into the box was missed by Moussa Diaby but Mitchell Bakker was on hand behind the attacker to fire an emphatic finish on the volley into the roof of the net.

Ten minutes into the second period and the former Hoops star once again stepped up as he received the ball outside before running at the home defence. After skipping by one defender he unleashed a shot at goal. The effort took a wicked deflection to leave the goalkeeper wrong-footed and stranded as it rolled over the line. Incredibly it was Frimpong's seventh goal in the Bundesliga this campaign.

Adam Hlozek added a third for the visitors late on to make it 3-1 but the home side hit back through Niclas Fullkrug from the penalty spot with four minutes to play to make things interesting going into the final stages.

However, Frimpong and his team-mates held on to claim a big three points in a five-goal thriller to round off a three game week in the perfect fashion.

The result leaves them sitting ninth in the league standings but they are now just six points behind Frankfurt in sixth spot in the hunt to secure European football for next term.
