Former Celtic starlet Paul McGowan has revealed Gordon Strachan halted training to issue a no-nonsense putdown.
The former Dundee and St Mirren midfielder has opened up on his experience of training as part of the first-team at Celtic as a youngster.
And McGowan, who had a good relationship with Strachan, has admitted he was put in his place shortly after joining training at Lennoxtown.
The midfielder didn't change his approach or temperament when moving up to the first-team and quickly received a sharp warning from Strachan.
Speaking on Open Goal, McGowan said of the X-rated rant he received from Strachan: "I went up and I was still shouting.
"Gordon Strachan, I can remember, stopped training in front of everybody.
"He said, 'He's a coach, he's a coach, he's a coach - you're not a f***ing coach, shut the f*** up'.
"I was just like that, sat there like that, no worries.
"I was not giving it to the players, but I was just still the way I was. I must have been grating on him."
McGowan, though, revealed Strachan did help him out with an appearance in the Champions League against Villarreal, which landed him a significant bonus.
The action came after McGowan's firstborn was unwell and required treatment in neonatal for months. Strachan phoned McGowan and offered to make a visit to the hospital.
He said: "He put me on the bench. We were 2-0 up.
"I think it was about £13k or £14k we were getting. He put me on after 60 or 70 minutes. I was like a wee ned chasing [Santi] Cazorla about."
