Ewan McGregor is reportedly set to marry Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Los Angeles just five years after the couple burst onto the scene.
The couple announced their relationship shortly after the Star Wars actor split from his ex wife Eve Mavrakis of 22 years in a turn of events which divided his children, fans and movie insiders.
However, Ewan, 51, and Mary, 37, who welcomed son Laurie last summer, have proved their critics wrong and are set to wed today with his four daughters in attendance, as reported in the Mirror
A source had told Page Six : "They are more in love than ever and having their first child together last year just strengthened their bond."
Ewan's explosive split with ex-wife Eve and the subsequent fall out with his four children Clara, 26, Esther Rose, 20, Jamyan, also 20, and Anouk, 11, was a talking point back in 2018.
Ewan and Mary - a secret relationship
Ewan met Mary for the first time on the set of the 2016 show Fargo, where Ewan played both Emmit and Raymond "Ray" Stussy.
Mary took on the role of Nikki Swango, a recent parolee and Ray's fiancée.
In May 2017, Mary even announced her split from her husband of seven years, Riley Stearns.
"We've decided to move on from our marriage, but we will stay best friends and collaborators for all our days. We are still ride or die, just in a different way now," she said in a since-deleted post as reported by People.
Just months later, Ewan and Mary were pictured kissing in west London a couple of months later, shortly before Ewan split from his wife.
"They were deep in conversation and were there together for more than an hour," an anonymous source told The Sun.
"As they left she got on to the back of Ewan's motorbike and they sped off together."
Following the split, a shocked fan expressed their concern to Eve on social media. Eve replied: "What can I do?"
A few years later, during an interview with Men's Journal, he also revealed that he has been doing 'better' in his new relationship.
"I am happier," he said. "I think that’s true.”
In 2021, Ewan won the award for lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for his role in Halston.
He went up on stage and gave her a romantic shout-out.
"Mary, I love you so much," he said. "I love you so much and we'll take this home and show it to our new little boy Laurie.
"And to my beautiful girls who I know are watching, Clara, Jamyan, Esther, and Anouk, I said I would say hello to you too."
Ewan and Eve - a showbiz marriage of 22 years
The Star Wars actor married the French-Greek Jewish production designer in 1995.
The two had met on the set of ITV drama Kavanagh QC and fell in love.
In an interview in 2015, Ewan said of his first wife and their wedding: "It was fantastic, in a way.
"I was living out my dream of being an actor and I was doing a lot of wild partying.
"So she was with me through all of that craziness.
"I knew right then that I really wanted to be with her and I knew I wanted to be with her in a different way to all the other many, many, many women I had been with up until that point.
"And I wasn’t wrong. I made the right choice."
The former couple have four children together, two of them adopted. One of his children he met while travelling in Mongolia for Long Way Round.
In May 2017, the two ended up splitting and started the process of their messy divorce a year later.
When asked about the split, Eve said : "It's disappointing and upsetting but my main concern is our four children are OK."
He cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split and the divorce was finalised in 2020.
Shortly after filing for divorce, he began dating Mary. Clara was unhappy with his new relationship at the time.
Ewan and Eve reportedly clashed over custody as the divorce turned nasty.
In his divorce filing, Ewan is believed to have petitioned for joint custody of their children but Eve filed for sole physical custody with visitation rights for the actor.
At the time, TMZ claimed Ewan was willing to pay spousal support and wanted their assets divided evenly because they didn't have a prenup.
However, subsequent reports suggested there were problems over the money Ewan was handing over to his ex.
TheBlast.com reported that the court documents revealed the star was 'voluntarily contributing to the living expenses' of Eve and their children.
However, he apparently believed he was paying more than what his normal obligation would have been.
The site also reported that Eve believed she was "receiving less than she should have been from the actor".
They finally came to a suitable agreement and the divorce was finalised in August 2020.
Bitter relationship with daughter
His eldest daughter Clara was initially unhappy with her dad's new relationship with Mary and even hit out at her on social media.
A fan account had shared a photo of Mary at the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscars party.
Clara revealed that she kept getting tagged in the photo of Mary and lost her temper after seeing endless comments about her mum.
Clara quoted the profile message, which was a gushing tribute to Mary, and seethed: "Most beautiful and talented woman on earth??? Oh man y'all are delusional. The girl is a piece of trash :) x."
A fan tried to defend Mary and said: "Say it to her face not in social media. It took TWO to undo this marriage.
"If a man OR woman is happy w/ their marriage no outside interference can destroy that!"
Clara then replied: "Yup it took two!! Mary & my father :)"
Following the online situation, she admitted to The Times that it wasn't her 'finest moment'.
Despite explaining her side of the story, Clara admitted she wasn't in a rush to meet her dad's new partner, saying "I'm good. I wish them all the best, but I'm staying out of that, for sure."
Thankfully, Clara, Ewan and Mary soon made up and things got better for them all. Clara even happily shared a photo of her brother after he was born.
Ewan and Mary's baby
In 2021, Ewan - who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars - and Mary secretly welcomed a baby boy into the world.
Clara was the one who confirmed the arrival of the couple's first child together.
She shared a photo of her herself cradling the new born and added the caption: "Welcome to the world little brother. congratulations to my Dad & Mary - this is the greatest gift."
In another picture, Clara lovingly gazed down at her baby brother as he stared back up at her.
Ewan's other daughter, Esther, also shared a sweet post of herself meeting her new brother.
She wrote: "Met my little brother looking like a pirate. I recommend! Welcome to the family little Laurie."
