Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has said that Romelu Lukaku was ‘wrong’ to return to Chelsea last summer as questions remain over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian forward returned to west London just under a year ago as the Blues paid Inter Milan £97m for his services.
Despite a promising start to life back with his former club, the move has gone slightly south with Lukaku having ruffled feathers with an interview claiming he would return to Italy. Whilst he apologised, his form and relationship with Thomas Tuchel appears to have been affected.
After plundering 30 goals last season, the 28-year-old has only found the back of the net on 12 occasions so far this term - only five of those coming in the Premier League. In fact, he has not started a league game since the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in mid-February, whilst Lukaku was also named on the bench for the Blues’ crucial Champions League tie with Real Madrid in mid-week.
