In the hoard of tower defense mobile games, it's sometimes difficult to stand out, but Evo Defense taps into the merge genre just a little bit to keep it fresh. This hybrid tower defense game has you fight with teams of 4 Heroes, but there's a twist to it. Before tapping into the ultimate power of your builds, you must merge stacks of mini-heroes with attention to timing and in-run random upgrades. Let's take a look at which Heroes give you the best and easiest time to fight back against hordes of incoming enemies in our Evo Defense: Merge TD Tier List.
Our tier list takes different aspects into consideration; the rarity of units, their cost, overall strength and utility in certain situations. We've sorted Evo Defense: Merge TD Heroes into 4 different tiers. Don't forget that enemies have various different resistances and affinities, so sometimes it's worth taking a "weaker" unit to hit the painful spot on a boss or a horde if it's a good match.

Evo Defense: Merge TD S Tier Heroes
| Character | About |
|---|---|
![]() Nezha Warrior |
● Nezha is the strongest Melee unit in the game with excellent Crowd Control thanks to her Passive Universe Ring, which slows them at the endpoint of its reach and dealing continuous DMG, with bonus to the first 4 hit ● She comes with both of her passives activated when she is obtained, the second one allowing her to deal 60% more damage to monsters below 50% of their health ● Upon activating her Ultimate at lvl5, the highest star Nezha will dash forward into the fray dealing damage, burning enemies and releasing Universe Rings throughout |
![]() Sword Immortal Archer |
● Sword Immortal is easily the strongest unit in the game overall; launching homing swords that penetrates through 2 monsters every 3s, with increasing strength to all swords whenever one hits the target ● His second passive, Breakthrough, allows him to deal 40% more damage to enemies above 50%HP ● Not only is his offensive passive very strong, his Archer class gives him the biggest effective range possible on top of his DMG stat being the highest in the game |
![]() Iron Woof Archer |
● Iron Woof is a fantastic Archer unit who comes with both passive abilities unlocked and class-granted amazing range ● His main attack is the Physical DMG laser with a solid damage multiplier ● Even better is his second passive that grants him the buff of 70% more damage to bosses specifically if he is in second or fourth star form (stack of 2 minis or the final fusion) |
![]() Sea King Summoner |
● The higher rarity of Summoner currently available in the game, Sea King comes with both of his passives already unlocked; second passive increases HP of the Whale summon by 5% with every level ● His summon is the Whale that slams splash damage onto nearby enemies and taunts 6 enemies with the highest HP, inheriting Sea King's ATK and ATK SPD, staying on the board for its 30s even if you merge Sea King further ● Excellent hybrid unit that can both dish damage and provide that aggro CC with his summon |
![]() Zhao Yun Warrior |
● His DMG stat is slightly higher than other Heroes' of the same rarity, and he comes with both passives unlock ● His main ability is a forward thrusting spear which deals double damage to first 3 monsters attacked, perfect for peeling the most dangerous and closest enemies to the wall, with some extra Crit Rate against Frozen or Taunted units, making him a perfect teammate for Snow Princess/Ice Mage and the Summoners ● He gains DMG off others being merged, manifested in the form of Dragon Soul stacks ● The only Warrior unit with a kit perfectly synchronous to his role as a wall melee |
Evo Defense: Merge TD A Tier Heroes
| Character | About |
|---|---|
![]() Angel Support |
● Angel's Passive skill is the Holy Feathers buff that enhances ATK and ATK SPD of several allies for a 50% uptime during the match, bouncing twice between units in a 2 tile range ● Their lvl5 Ultimate unlock picks the strongest Hero on the board as the main recipient of all Angel buffs, greatly boosting their ATK and bouncing off of them ● Their value goes down if there's no good damaging heroes to carry the match, as Support' units attacks don't hit nearly as hard or often |
![]() Black Widow Poisoner |
● This higher rarity Poisoner comes with both of her passives unlocked; her main attack is a horde of spiders who bite enemies and explode upon doing so, poisoning more nearby enemies, perfect for handling large crowds ● The second passive grants her a buff of 2 more spiders to each Black Widow if there's no more than 3 of her on the field, which is significant but can be difficult to navigate around at times |
![]() Snow Princess Controller |
● The Snow Princess is highest rarity controller with the ability to cast a forward moving Ice Core that deals damage to monsters and freezing them for solid 2.5s ● Otherwise has no more noteworthy abilities, but is the strongest controller in the game, albeit not easy to obtain |
![]() Storm Mage |
● Storm is obtained with only her regular attack ability unlocked, which allows her to cast a whirlwind that moves around and deals solid damage to all enemies in range, for the duration of 6s ● Multiple copies of her on the field add up to great damage numbers, and make her a practically DoT unit |
![]() Annie Summoner |
● The lowest rarity summoner, Annie is still pretty strong simply thanks to the nature of summoners; she summons a Bear to move around on the board and defend the wall, and he not only deals damage to enemies but also taunts them, keeping those in range of him away from the wall ● The summoned Bear inherits Annie's ATK and ATK SPD, which means he will scale with her getting stronger ● A huge plus for summoners is that you can keep merging them away after they have performed the summon, and this summon will stay on the board for their 30s duration |
![]() Big Fin Poisoner |
● Big Fin is a Poisoner, making him the lowest rarity unit of the class (gold tier is still pretty high) ● His passive ability is a throwable which leaves a poisonous pool that deals 77% Poison DMG every 0.7s for 6s ● He is very weak in low star stacks and has a short range, but winds up to become pretty strong when fused into his final form |
![]() Blade Master Warrior |
● Blade Master is a warrior-class Hero who leaps into the battle to slash through enemies 4 times, all the while gaining additional 10% Crit Rate ● A real powerhouse when amplified through the in-run cards, but otherwise his other passive and Ultimate are locked out when you pull him, much like other gold rarity units |
![]() Rocket Archer |
● Rocket is a solid unit whose main passive ability is to fire 3 bullets at enemies, though the multipliers on these bullets isn't terrific ● Both the second passive and Ultimate are locked when obtaining Rocket |
![]() Thunder Mage |
● Thunder is a solid mage-class Hero who works best against tightly knit hordes of weak enemies, as his main ability is to chain lightning attacks, making him an excellent carry for early levels and beginner players, should you manage to obtain him ● Starting from gold rarity units, this tier and above has diminishing returns given how difficult it is to get a single copy of it, let alone dupes to open the full kit ● Both the second passive and Ultimate are locked for Thunder upon obtaining him |
![]() Fire Mage Mage |
● Fire Mage is a mage unit with a conical range, whose Fire Ray ability in fact does cook enemies further than the cone area, making for an excellent damage mesh when multiple minion Fire Mages are present on the board. An excellent unit of lower rarity, worthy of leveling up and keeping on the team ● Downside is, she has only one passive ability in the kit |
B Tier Heroes
| Character | About |
|---|---|
![]() Mermaid Support |
● Mermaid's support ability buffs are fairly strong, increasing ATK SPD to one ally and spreading to 1 tile on each side for three attacks; however she suffers as all Support units do in this game - it's not enough to justify a Support slot on the team ● She is highly dependent on other Hero positioning to max out her power, something that can rarely be controlled to a satisfactory degree |
![]() Diggo Controller |
● Diggo summons 5 consecutive moles to attack enemies, knocking them up on the board and stunning them for solid early crowd control; better in every aspect than the Ice mage ● He also has an enhancing passive for the strongest mole unit on the board that you can unlock at lvl10 |
![]() Kaka Warrior |
● Kaka is a unit all players get for free upon performing 10-recruit 18 times ● While his only ability is the Thunder dash, his and the damage of the Afterimage he leaves upon performing each dash add up for a solid early game Warrior unit, provided you didn't already get a better one within those recruits required to get him |
![]() Knight Warrior |
● Knight is a solid early-game warrior type unit, with a pretty good range for a warrior unit and two passives which focus on dealing splash damage and multiplying the axes he throws at enemies ● While there's better warrior units in higher rarities, this one is pretty good for early team builds |
![]() Cannon Mage |
● Cannon is not terrible for the beginner team; the bombs can get some decent upgrades, and his true drawback is the range and speed at which he hurls them, as well as upgrades needed to make him viable, so it's recommended to replace him with |
![]() Ranger Archer |
● Even for the lowest tier unit, Ranger is great with his big range; multiple copies are great at peppering and peeling the entire board bit by bit, especially at lower stars, making him the best of the initial squad |
C Tier Heroes
| Character | About |
|---|---|
![]() Shroomie Archer |
● While the Shroomie does posess the great range of the Archer class, it doesn't perform particularly well in battles and the kit is somewhat counterintuitive with how Archers should behave to max out their damage ● The not-poisoner poison Hero overall suffers from its hybrid nature |
![]() Athena Support |
● Though her buffs are nice, due to the fact that you can't choose who the stacks turn into upon grouping, you may be locked into having too many Athenas and no DPS at all, which in turn translates into no coins and a lost level, so it's best to replace her, even with another weak DPS as soon as possible |
![]() Ice Mage Controller |
● Crowd Control and speed reduction are generally useful in this game; but Ice Mage's freeze still spell a losing situation unless you have sufficient DPS to make use of it, since her own DPS isn't going anywhere, but if you do have a decent carry unit, she has her uses ● Several enhancing passives she can accumulate through levels don't really change the picture in practice |
