Everything you need to know about the new McDonald’s franchise, CosMc’s - and is it coming to the UK?

Shock waves were sent across the globe this week, as one of the world’s most powerful entities announced its next big move: an ‘otherworldly’, ‘refreshing beverage’ and ‘tasty treats’ offering. Yes, that’s right, the big wigs at McDonald’s are continuing their quest for world domination with a brand new franchise – and there’s not a nugget in sight.

CosMc's by McDonald's (McDonald's)

CosMc’s (pronounced cosmic), a drive-through concept which opened in – *checks notes* – Bolingbrook, Illinois, a few days ago, is what McDonald’s is calling ‘a new small-format, beverage-led concept that’s truly out of this world’, all based on an intergalactic character that appeared in McDonaldland in the ‘80s and 90s.

If you’re wondering what constitutes ‘out of this world’, that’d be a vast array of intriguing, funky drinks and wacky snacks which could have been dreamt up by a focus group of 7 year-olds. The sips, made up of ‘unexpected flavour combinations, vibrant colours and functional boosts’, include a Tropical Spiceade, Churro Frappe, Citrus and Cream Shake and Turmeric Spiced Latte, while new innovations on the food front include McPops (filled doughnut bites) and a Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich. The truly intriguing part? Each drink can be customised with the addition of popping boba pearls, flavoured syrups, and energy or Vitamin C shots.

The first of ten outposts set to be opened before the end of next year across the states, what we want to know is: when is it coming to the UK? The unfortunate answer from McDonald’s HQ is: ‘There are no current plans.’ Though perhaps we can make enough noise to change that – especially if one were able to get their lips around anything close to an energy-infused Popping Pear Slush. Who’s with me?
