A father has been arrested and an emergency alert has been issued after four sisters disappeared from their home in Alabama.
The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office had asked for the public’s help to find the four Buchanan family sisters who were first noticed missing in Sylacauga on Thursday morning.
By Friday afternoon, the sisters were found safe in Clayton County, Georgia, following the arrest of their father Clifton Christopher Buchanan.
What happened to the Buchanan sisters?
The girls reported missing on Thursday and later found safe are 12-year-old Aaliyah Grace, nine-year-old Isabella Jane, seven-year-old Lacey Nicole, and two-year-old Gracelyn Hope.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) sent out an emergency missing child alert on Thursday night, saying that the four girls had been missing since 11.35am in Sylacauga, southeast of Birmingham.
Their father, Clifton Christopher Buchanan, 34, was arrested for “interference with custody” on Thursday after being found in Etowah County, says the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office.
The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office said the children were first noticed being missing after the Department of Human Services was handed a court order giving the agency temporary custody and agency staff couldn’t find either the children or the father, according to AL.com.
Officials say that Mr Buchanan was admitted to the county jail at 10.24pm on Thursday and is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
On Friday morning, the ALEA cancelled the missing child alert before confirming the girls had been found safe in Clayton County, Georgia.
The Alabama Department of Human Resources is heading to Georgia to collect the children.
Details around how the girls ended up in Georgia have not been released.
