All The Drama You Forgot Happened In Bridgerton (And Why It Still Matters Now)

Dear reader, Bridgerton season four is almost here and my loins are burning for the fire of another steamy season of the cum-mings and goings of the ton.

That’s right, two years later and we’re finally getting our Bridgerton fix, with Benedict Bridgerton set to get his time in the limelight in season four Australian actress Yerin Ha playing opposite him as the mysterious Lady in Silver, also known as Sophie Baek.

The beauty of the beloved series being based on a book is that it gives us an inkling about what stories we’ll see play out on screen. So, let’s get into it, shall we?

Is there a trailer for Bridgerton Season 4?

After months of anticipation, Netflix dropped the official trailer for season four, part one, in December as a lil’ festive treat. Not only is it filled with your standard horny Bridgerton antics, but it also reveals that the season will be somewhat of a Cinderella retelling.

Benedict (Luke Thompson) remains wary of settling down until a Lady in Silver captures his attention — and his heart — at his mother’s masquerade ball. Of course, the mysterious woman is Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood, who has to run off at midnight and leaves a white glove behind. Mysterious!

This season is said to be one of the most faithful to the book series and the trailer features several scenes straight from the page — including the famous lake scene where Sophie encounters Benedict while he’s taking a skinny dip. Watch out, Heated Rivalry!

Peep the trailer below:

When is the Bridgerton Season 4 release date?

Well, my Bridgerton baddies, hold on to your petticoats because it won’t be long until we feast our eyes on the next horny period romance.

Netflix has confirmed that the show will be arriving in two parts, with the first four episodes premiering on January 29, 2026.

Pesky timezones mean some of us will be getting the four-episode drop before others, so here’s the rundown based on where you are in Australia:

  • Sydney / Melbourne / Canberra / Hobart: 7pm AEDT
  • Brisbane: 6pm AEST
  • Adelaide: 6.30pm ACDT
  • Darwin: 5.30pm ACST
  • Perth: 4pm AWST

Part two of Bridgerton season four will include the remaining four episodes of the season. Those will land in Australia almost a month later on February 26, 2026. We don’t yet know exact release times, so keep your eyes peeled!

I’ve missed them so. (Image: Netflix)

The imminent batch of episodes is welcome news given just how long we’ve waited between seasons. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the UK premiere for Bridgerton season three, part two, showrunner Jess Brownell said they’re looking at a two-year pace for each season.

“The writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace; we’re trying to speed up, but somewhere in that range,” Brownell shared.

It’s not fair how gorgeous this cast is. (Image: Getty)

During her ‘yuge tea spill, Brownell elaborated on the time and effort it takes to orchestrate everyone’s favourite period romance.

“I’m really excited about what we’re writing. We’re towards the end with the writers’ room season, with the scripts,” Brownell said. “We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language.”

It’s still a little while to go, but on the bright side, at least you’ve got heaps of time to read the books and maladaptive daydream about season four. Now, excuse me as I try to find a Bridgerton version of Beyoncé‘s “Diva”.

Can’t wait to have them back! (Image: Netflix)

Who will Bridgerton Season 4 be about?

While season one and season two matched the first two books in the series, season three skipped the third eldest child, Benedict Bridgerton, and instead followed the love story of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) — the fourth book of Julia Quinn‘s series.

However, the time has finally cum (hehe I can’t be stopped) for Benedict to have his moment and find the love of his life while his sister-in-law writes a bunch of shit about his sexcapades — you’ve got to love family.

My heart! (Image: Netflix)

Netflix announced the news via a teaser trailer last year, with Luke Thompson looking fine as hell opening up the door to an unseen voice who tells him, “I hear we’re fitting you for a suit.”

Thompson replies: “I already have an outfit for tonight.”

“It’s not for tonight… it’s for the masquerade ball,” the voice then declares as they hand him his costume.

“In that case, come on in,” the actor then says. We must have the same sense of humour hehe.

The season will introduce Sophie Baek, a maid who ends up meeting Benedict at his mother’s masquerade ball, and she and Benedict fall madly in love, of course. So basically this is going to be a hornier version of Cinderella and I’m here for it!

Hot new bombshells enter the ton! (Image: Netflix)

Netflix just so happened to release a special look at the pair’s budding romance as well as the glitzy masquerade ball in honour of Valentine’s Day, and it’s safe to say these two cuties will make for a bloody ripper of a season.

The pair — both decked out in full masquerade fits — are seen sharing a particularly romantic moment under a gazebo together, with Sophie remarking that it’s a “spectacular night” and Benedict cheekily tells her that he “won’t tell [his] mother”. Ugh, so sweet.

The quick sneak peek also showed the return of a handful of fan-faves, including Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), as well as sprinkling in some extra-cute moments of newlyweds Colin and Penelope. We stan forever!

In Netflix’s date announcement video, the suspense continues with Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) narrating a cryptic staircase scene with the two leads.

“With each passing season, one is known to experience plenty of ups and downs. So then we must ask ourselves, do we rise to the occasion? As always, time and this author will tell,” she says.

I’M SO READY!!

It will be interesting to see how Benedict’s new love interest plays into the broader plot about his sexuality, since earlier seasons explicitly showed him to be queer. We’ll have to wait and see how that storyline plays out when Benedict is the focus of the season, but his pairing with Sophie Baek has certainly been a point of discussion among fans.

I’m glad we finally know what’s happening this season because Netflix likes to keep us on our toes! Previously, creator Shonda Rhimes commented that the order of the Bridgerton families’ romances would be mixed up, but did confirm that they’ll all get their turn.

“We’re not necessarily going in order, but we are going to be seeing each of the siblings and their stories,” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2022.

“I do have a very specific plan of where we go each season — which one is which. Because you really have to start seeding in the other siblings, and what’s going on with them, to push them to the next season.”

There really are a lot of Bridgertons, hey? (Image: Netflix)

Season is also unique in that it will mark the first time the characters are aware of the Lady Whistledown’s identity. The repercussions will surely reverberate throughout the ton in season 4, so best believe I’m seated for all that drama.

Which characters will return in Season 4?

This author is screaming, crying and throwing up because it looks like we will have most of our OGs back on our screens this season. None other than Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton!!!! Happy days!!!!

Speaking to The Wrap in 2024, Coughlan confirmed the exciting news that she and Luke Newton would be returning.

“They’ve told us we’re back for season four, which is super lovely … It’ll be exciting. We’ll pop back and have some fun for sure.”

How it feels waiting two years for Nicola’s return. (Image: Netflix)

Coughlan also shared an on-set pic from Bridgerton last month, introducing fans to Elliot Bridgerton aka Baby Whistledown. Too cute!

Jonathan Bailey (daddy) confirmed his return to the show during an interview on Good Morning America in the same year. “I have a couple of weeks etched out in my schedule for returning,” he said.

AH I’M SCREAMING!

As for the rest of the cast? Netflix has released the official cast list which includes: Victor Alli (Lord John Stirling), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Julie Andrews (Lady Whistledown), Lorraine Ashbourne (Mrs. Varley), Masali Baduza (Michaela Stirling), Hannah Dodd (Francesca Stirling), Daniel Francis (Lord Marcus Anderson), Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton), Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton), Martins Imhangbe (Will Mondrich), Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Will Tilston (Gregory Bridgerton), Polly Walker (Portia Featherington), Emma Naomi (Alice Mondrich) and Hugh Sachs (Brimsley).

Simone Ashley (Kate Bridgerton) has also been listed additional key cast, along with Isabella Wei (Posy Li), Michelle Mao (Rosamund Li), and Katie Leung (Lady Araminta Gun).

SCREAMING! (Image: Liam Daniel/Netflix © 2025)

Netflix is really keeping us fed, because they’ve also announced Bridgerton season four’s leading lady! Yerin Ha will be playing Sophie Baek (yes, it’s formerly Beckett, but please don’t make this a thing) and she’s actually a Sydney gal!

My life would actually be made if they played an orchestral version of our national anthem (“Untouched” by The Veronicas).

If you need something to fill the Bridgerton-shaped hole in your life until season four drops, you can rewatch all three seasons — and the spin-off series Queen Charlotteon Netflix.
