Sabri Lamouchi insisted no decisions would be made over his own future or indeed the players who are out of contract this summer until Cardiff City's Championship status is guaranteed for next term.
Lamouchi's deal with the club runs out in three games' time and he hopes to fulfil his remit of securing the club's position as a second-tier team.
But it is only natural that supporters start turning their heads towards what next season looks like, beginning with this summer and the players who are likely to stay, leave and be brought in.
It's a time of limbo, in a sense, because until Cardiff know in which ballpark they are playing in, no concrete calls can be made over the makeup of the squad or the management.
So, when asked by WalesOnline if there was any movement on the players' contracts or indeed his own future, it was perhaps unsurprising when the Bluebirds boss brought his bat down straight and replied: "No. Unfortunately not."
Lamouchi joins Mark Harris, Connor Wickham, Tom Sang, Joel Bagan and other academy players in heading into the final months of his contract. But so, too, are loan players Sory Kaba, Jaden Philogene and Cedric Kipre.
That would leave a pretty sizeable hole to fill come next season if all were to depart. Lamouchi has already spoken about Kaba's desire to stay in the Welsh capital next year, but what about the others? And when, more pertinently, will calls be made and decisions be ratified.
"The players are happy here," Lamouchi said of the players he has in on loan. "Kaba, Cedric, Jaden. Jaden is doing a great season and Aston Villa are absolutely happy with his loan.
"Players at the end of their contract, they will go back. And after we are sure we are playing in the Championship next season, the club will do what they have to do."
So, it looks as though the club will have to be mathematically safe before anything drastic takes place with regards to decision-making.
One player everyone wants back at the club is Kaba. As Lamouchi alludes to, without his goals Cardiff would likely be in a far more precarious position at the bottom end of the Championship table.
Having found the back of the net eight times in his last 13 games for the Bluebirds, he has endeared himself to thousands in the Welsh capital. And Lamouchi couldn't speak highly enough of him, hoping that, when or if Cardiff are safe, some sort of solution could be found to keep him with the club next term.
"I just try to talk with him every day. I try to give him confidence. He came to England and to Cardiff because it was the dream for him to stay and he will stay anyway, we spoke about that," Lamouchi said of the Guinean striker.
"Because he has done a great job, an absolutely fantastic job, without the Kaba goals, just look where we would be. We would be in a different situation for sure.
"He will stay in the UK, that's for sure. After Cardiff want to keep him, he wants to stay in Cardiff, we will find the solution. It would be a fantastic deal for everyone.
"But if Cardiff cannot or he receives a better offer for another place, the dream can come true for him. He can stay in the Championship minimum next season."
