AND HERE'S EVERYTHING ELSE:

State of Play June 2026 Recap

If there's one prediction that's less of a prediction and more of a promise, it's that we're about to see a whole lot more of Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games.

"To kick things off, you’ll get a closer look at Marvel’s Wolverine," the official PlayStation blog announcing this specific PlayStation State of Play reads in part. "Insomniac Games will share more from its upcoming third-person action-adventure game showing off Logan’s brutal and relentless combat along with some new details. This all-new take on the comic book legend launches on PS5 September 15."

It's been a minute since we've seen much from Insomniac's upcoming game. While it missed the February 2026 State of Play, the launch date of September 15, 2026 was confirmed in late February. For those counting days: that's only three months and change away. Now is as good a time as any to share a whole lot more about Marvel's Wolverine.

Beyond the Marvel's Wolverine of it all, it's unclear exactly what to expect out of today's PlayStation State of Play. Sometimes the official announcement will give some kind of direction on what's coming, but the official blog is broad to the point of uselessness. Top studios? From around the world? Updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals? Cool. Great.

So, what's going to be there that isn't about a mutant with healing powers? Well, if our very own Jasmine Gould-Wilson is correct in her PlayStation State of Play predictions, the one big hope is to see more from Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. All we've really seen up to this point is a cinematic trailer, and with Saros in the rearview it feels like a good time for PlayStation to beef up its marketing for the already revealed lineup. It just makes sense, right?

Another of Jasmine's predictions that I actually agree with is that S-Game's Phantom Blade Zero could make an appearance during today's PlayStation State of Play. We've seen the upcoming action RPG a couple of different times, including recently at gamescom latam 2026, and every single person that puts hands on it comes away impressed.

Notably, Phantom Blade Zero is coming to PS5 first, and it was previously revealed during a PlayStation event. Also? It's set to release on September 9. That's even sooner than Marvel's Wolverine! Even if Phantom Blade Zero does manage to skip out on tonight's festivities, I have a hard time imagining it not making any appearance at all this week. If not tonight, then Friday, right?

There's at least one game it seems safe to say will not make an appearance at the PlayStation State of Play. Look, just to say it out loud: I am not expecting to see anything from Grand Theft Auto 6 tonight. (Apologies to the big dreamers on GamesRadar+ staff.) With the way folks have been waiting for GTA 6, Rockstar doesn't really need to participate in the marketing beats of other folks. It can... simply make its own, if it wants.

For all of the excitement inherent to everything going on during what was once the E3 window, it's basically all just one large advertisement. Not only that, but you're inevitably chained to whatever other announcements any given platform wants to make at the same time. If you're Rockstar, why spend the money? The company could announce an event on a rainy Sunday in July and people would consider it appointment viewing.

With just one hour to go, it's been a fairly tight ship over at PlayStation. Usually, you can expect a couple of high-profile leaks ahead of a showcase of any kind, but barring some minor rumors and scuttlebutt there doesn't appear to have been any major security issues this time around.

There's still plenty of time for something to squeak out before the curtain lifts, of course, but that window is swiftly closing. As of right now, the biggest news that hasn't yet been announced but might appear tonight could be the fact that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis appears to have moved to early 2027.

There's only 45 minutes until the PlayStation State of Play June 2026 begins, and so now's the moment: what are you hoping to see?

My typical request for any of these events is that Sega trot out either a full remake of the original Valkyria Chronicles, an English release for Valkyria Chronicles 3, or – if I'm feeling lucky – an announcement of Valkyria Chronicles 5. The strategy RPG has a unique combat system that is turn-based, sort of, with a lovely illustration style. For my money, it seems like the sort of thing that was perhaps ahead of its time, and could be even more popular now.

There's only 30 minutes left to wait! Still time to get some snacks and a drink or take a bathroom break. Just as a refresher with time zones, here's when the PS5 State of Play is set to begin:
- 2PM PT
- 5PM ET
- 10PM UK
- 11PM CEST

With just 15 minutes until showtime, you know what I'd really like to see tonight? God of War. God of War anything, really. Except maybe the upcoming show, which had a fairly rough first look.

I'll take remake news, sequel news, spinoff news... Heck, if you want to make another Sons of Sparta, I'd even be game for that. Something hacky, something slashy, or something action...y. Sometimes it's just nice to hit a bunch of buttons to hit a bunch of enemies.

And the placeholder countdown is officially live! 10 minutes left until the reveals begin in earnest, and the YouTube chat at least seems to be squints really into the idea of a Destiny 3 reveal. I'm not sure why anyone would want PlayStation to announce a new Destiny when it's just summarily executed Destiny 2 and Marathon is still kicking into gear, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

OK! Less than 5 minutes! This is not a drill! This is also the liminal space where all predictions are safe and nobody can hurt you. So, in that spirit, here are some quickfire harebrained ideas that could potentially make an appearance simply because of the infinite possibilities of the universe:

New BioShock? Borderlands? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? More Battlefield? SOCOM revival? PSP sequel? A man can dream...

And here we go... It has begun.

As expected, Marvel's Wolverine is first out of the gate. Lots of brutal slashing, jumping, and more slashing. Marcus Smith, creative director, is here to introduce "a new look at the game." Wolverine is trying to rescue kidnapped mutants from Reavers, and discovers he's not the only mutant trying to save them.

Wolverine takes a sniff of something to track down someone else before engaging with the aforementioned Reavers. This is... a lot bloodier than even I expected. He's absolutely covered, but some of the blood goes away when he stops in some water. Jump, slash, blood, jump, slash, more blood. Traversal seems pretty smooth.

Glimpse of Leech in a Trask Industries container! And Logan absolutely murders a bunch of others before, surprise, Jean Grey shows up! She uses her telekinesis to throw some folks around.

While Wolverine is slicing and dicing more baddies, Jean Grey looks to be helping out in the background. The two of them even pull off a combo move where she lifts and he... well, kills them. Goodness, he's gone and tossed one into some forklift blades.

Looks like there's a "feral" combat mode where he gets even nastier and the screen changes color. Unclear what other changes there are. But after all of that, he rides a motorcycle to chase down the Reavers as they try to escape.

But look out, a big burly Reaver has some shocking weapons to take on Wolverine. Not that it stops Logan; there's a mechanical QTE where he heals his skin enough to fight back and put the brute out of his misery. But, uh, also Wolverine then gets stuck under a vehicle that attempts to crush him underneath but not fast enough. He escapes and tries to free the Morlocks (?) from the container. "Are you a superhero?" No; he's Wolverine.

And we end on a montage of the single-player action game that sends Logan on a journey across the world. Mutants live in hiding, but you still encounter characters like Jean Grey, Mystique, and Sabretooth in the game. Combat is very bloody, which, uh, yeah. I got that. Pre-orders begin today, apparently!

But don't take my word for it! You can watch for the entire Marvel's Wolverine showcase for yourself:

And we're sticking with Marvel! Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is up next. The greatest action is to fight, apparently. Doctor Doom is the leader of the Knights of Doom team. Lots of projectiles. Magneto punching the heck out of Storm. Green Goblin against Spider-Man feels a bit on the nose, but it's still fun to see.

But moving right along: Rayman! Looks similar to Rayman Legends, but with even more 3D aspects. It's certainly not this one that leaked previously, but more Rayman makes it more likely that the leak is also correct.

Rayman Legends Retold it is! October 1, pre-order available now. Also, here's that Marvel fighter trailer if you missed it:

Up next: what looks to be a Dave the Diver prequel? I'm going to be vulnerable and tell you I never played the original, so I've only got some idea of what's happening here with the minigames for fishing, cooking, pouring tea, doing dishes, and so on. Bancho the Chef is the title, in development for PS5.

Enough of that! We're into some kind of fantastical parkour-like game. Lots of climbing, hunting yokai, wearing (?) yokai to use their powers. Up to 3-player co-op, even! Kemuri! Coming 2027 to PS5. Ikumi Nakamura's game, apparently! She missed all of us. "Some of you may have forgotten me." Then she Did The Thing. I haven't forgotten.

Fox Window ability lets players reveal and hunt and collect yokai. You have to form a contract in order to "embody" them and use their advantages in combat and traversal. I don't hate it. Katana Hunter, Bow Hunter, and Shaman are the three types of characters. They're making Kemuri to deliver chaos and laughter.

And now: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Seems like that delay is true, probably. Gameplay here looks like classic Lara combined with modern Uncharted-style puzzles and combat. Also, a dinosaur. Seems fine?

And there it is: February 12, 2027. Technically a delay out of 2026.

But enough of that! Onto what looks to be a Jurassic Park game of some kind? Lots of running around in foggy, dark places, dodging mean-looking dinosaurs. The Lost Wild, coming 2027. Not actually Jurassic Park, then? All right.

And, as expected, S-Game has shown up with Phantom Blade Zero! Game still looks slick as hell. Fun stylish combat, gnarly-looking big enemies... I don't go here, but maybe I should. Just a quick tease, looks like, with more to come this summer. Gameplay and story deep dive later this summer.

And from there, on to Dune: Awakening... OK. I guess technically this isn't already on PS5, but there's apparently a single-player mode coming with the PlayStation release on September 22, so that's something.

Dynasty Warriors 3 is also getting a remaster! Good for them. Coming October 1, pre-orders start today.

No Rest for the Wicked is also coming to PS5, but, again, that's already available elsewhere in early access. Still, nice for PS5 to get the full 1.0 release. Coming October 2026, available to wishlist now.

And now: Onimusha: Way of the Sword from Capcom. Love more some samurai-style action. Lots of slashing enemies in half, jumping around to avoid obstacles. And also a big brute licking another person for some reason? Looks like a boss fight of some sort. "If you live by the sword, fighting is everything."

But after a loss, looks like he might take human souls? September 25, 2026. Pre-orders available today. Honestly, it's not Ghost of Yotei, but it does look like it might scratch the itch.

And surprise! Demo is available now?

And now for something gross... Silent Hill, maybe? Ugly critters, fog. "Hey, who's there?" Mysterious music, exploring around with what looks to be some kind of portable TV tuner, solving puzzles... Is this Townfall? Sure seems to be.

I don't go here – horror isn't my thing – but the monsters he's avoiding here seem much more nimble than I recall Silent Hill critters being. Releases September 24, and it sure was Silent Hill: Townfall.

Ace Combat 8! Land battleship! Welcome back to Strangereal, everyone. "That's where the Wings of Theve comes in." Sure, bud. Sure. Flight looks slight, dogfights seem tense. Lots of strange technological advancements with a bunch of real-world aircraft: that's the Ace Combat promise.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is out October 2, 2026, but early access starts on September 29. And! Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War on PS5 as a bonus for purchase! Looks great, but then again I'm a sucker for Ace Combat. See for yourself:

And now something from Saber with racing cars and jumps and slick visuals... is that Knight Rider? Twisted Metal? Mad Max? Back to the Future? ...Car Smash Bros.?

No! Stuntman: Hollywood! Be still my heart. "Coming soon."

Ah, good, another gross one. Ill looks gross and bloody and scary. It's going to appeal to my colleague Ashley, and looks very spooky. "I will help you, but you must not go there!" So much stabbing and blood. I honestly am not sure how to describe this in a way that will make sense, but it's coming in 2027, and, uh, well. Yeah. Here's the trailer:

And now, something equally mindbending but less gross: Control Resonant. Dylan is their only shot at survival, of course, so he's got to... traverse a world that's all messed up? Dylan isn't human, they're telling me. Slow-motion gameplay hints that make it look very much like an action game. September 24, 2026.

And hey, would you look at that. Congratulations to all the people asking for Destiny 3 in the YouTube chat: here's more Marathon. I am going to be honest here and admit I can't parse what's happening, but it's all very stylish. "Do you crave endless life?" I do not. Apparently this is about the new season, Nightfall, that's out today. And there's an open trial period!

PlayStation Plus stuff up now, apparently, with a look at RuneScape: Dragonwilds coming to the service day one in Fall 2026.

And coming to the Classics catalog this year: Gitaroo Man, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. All right.

And now, something from Firesprite: group of people at an island paradise that sure seems like it's been shut down. Neil Newbon, though. Bit like Love Island meets Far Cry. Lots of blood with one person meeting their end at a machete, one on a rock...

Until Dawn 2! Everyone can live, or everyone can die. If you can believe it, the islands has secrets. Coming to PS5 in 2027.

And finally, 20 minutes of a brand-new title! What could it be? That rumored God of War? We're about to find out...

Black screen, humming... Santa Monica Studio! (God of War possibility intensifies...)

"Find your way home; you are free." And sure enough, there's Kratos' arm carrying a body wrapped in cloth with a flower crown. He lights the pyre; the boy stands in the background. Ash rises to the sky, but it's more than just ash... a body appears in the light of the stars as the sky splits.

...only to reconstitute elsewhere. The new game starts and she looks for Kratos. Hello, Deborah Ann Woll. She doesn't know where she is, and encounters a strange and vibrant squirrel-like creature. She stumbles into whatever structure she's found herself in and laments. It's not Kansas, it would appear. Lots of flowers and greenery – which attacks!

But she manages to fend it off with some kind of magical attack before launching into a sword combo that honestly looks slick as heck against some plant monsters.

She armors up from the dead folks, which feels like not great considering they died while wearing it but, you know what, you know best, Deborah. She dives under some rocks to further explore. "That mask... No, it can' t be; it's not possible." I mean, it sure seems possible.

She's talking out loud about finding her way back to the path for my benefit, specifically. I appreciate it. I don't appreciate the weird fiery golems that have grabbed her now. I'm also ambivalent about the weird little critter we've seen; time will tell whether I love it or hate it.

She watches as others are captured before exploding a nearby pot of something or other with her mysterious power. Red demon man grabs her – he's a big one. Before the enemies part and another angry-looking goddess (?) steps out to pull something from Deborah's hand. All these enemies looks Egyptian, perhaps?

Maybe some kind of place where multiple pantheons are interacting? Some chatter about the gate being closed. Sekhmet? Definitely Egyptian. She calls a massive cat to take her toward what looks like some kind of observatory.

Faye is thrown into the clink, and runs into a gelatinous cube and sword (ribbon?) that's talking to her. Afterlife of the gods, the cube calls it. Frank is his name, and he sounds like Jack Quaid to me.

Faye needs to accept that she's her, according to Frank, to use her power. But what if she needs to be somewhere else? Well, maybe if she focuses on what she does need... and so she thinks of finding a way home and... blows everything up. She sees a manifestation of Kratos, who is... not actually here? But she's free! Hooray! Hope Frank's OK.

Frank saves the day when Faye is attacked! Hooray! And the talking ribbon gives Faye the sword, which looks extremely cool, I can't even lie. And she knows how to use it. And looks like Frank is also involved in combat here? Extremely here for it. The fiery golemy dudes don't stand a chance against the combined might of Faye, Frank the cube, and the sword.

The more I see of this, the more I like it. Faye and Frank take on the red demon god in a boss fight. "You don't know what you wield!" He's scared o the sword, apparently? Though he denies it.

Also, just to say it now, I wonder if they're paying KA Applegate anything for the rights to Everworld. (This is a joke, but the similarities to the circumstances are striking.)

God of War Laufey! Coming to PS5. Otherwise known as: Deborah Ann Tall. We've gone and cut to a montage of everything that's been shown, so that looks to be it, folks. You can watch the whole God of War Laufey reveal for yourself, though, and I highly recommend it:

And that's it! It's over! A fairly solid showing, I think. Thanks for sticking it out, if in fact you did, or thanks for reading at some point in the future. I tried to color between the lines, and it'd be great if you told all your friends how cool I am.
