Everyone saying the same thing about Joe Canning after RTE punditry appearance

Joe Canning was on punditry duty for RTE as he took in two All-Ireland quarter-final clashes on Saturday afternoon.

Galway beat Cork in the opening game of a double header at Semple Stadium before Clare pulled off an incredible comeback to defeat Wexford in the later match.

Galway great Canning was joined in the RTE studio by former Clare and Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald and Cork camogie legend Anna Geary, with Joanne Cantwell presenting.

A number of viewers took to social media to praise Canning after Saturday's games.

One said: "Really enjoyed Joe Canning's analysis and punditry for today's All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Finals. Every bit as good in the studio as he was on the pitch."

Another commented: "Joe Canning one of the all time great hurlers done very well on his debut as RTE GAA hurling pundit."

Someone else tweeted: "Joe canning is a joy to listen to."

One other post read: "This Joe Canning lad has a future in punditry."

Canning was critical of one decision made by Henry Shefflin despite Galway's win and believes the Tribesmen can improve ahead of the semi-finals.

When asked if he thinks Galway have "more in them", Canning replied: "I think they do. In the second half bringing out Conor Whelan... close to goal is his place and if you leave him with enough ball inside he'll do damage but they brought him out around the 45 and he didn't really [have an impact from that position].

Canning insisted that his former teammate has to be patient when playing in front of goal.

He explained: "He just has to be patient. It's just all about patience at this level. You might only get five balls in the match and it's one.

"He got a goal at the start. One ball in. That's it."

And Canning believes Galway will have to improve before facing defending All-Ireland champions Limerick.

He added: "Galway will be up against it. If they perform the way they did [vs Cork], unfortunately, I can only see Limerick winning but I think Galway will be up for it.

"You saw in the league earlier in the year, Galway performed and got a result.

"How good Limerick were in the league is a different story.

"You never know. Sport is funny. There hasn't really been that much of a shock this year so why not in the semi-final?"
