Everyone loves Liverpool's Sadio Mane but Fabinho has evening to forget at Aston Villa

Liverpool kept their hopes of the Premier League alive with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp's men headed to Villa Park aware of the fact that anything other than three points would see Manchester City strongly placed to become champions. Goals from Joel Matip and Sadio Mane saw the Reds overturn the home's side early strike through Douglas Luiz, despite not being at their best on the night.

Our chief Liverpool reporter, Ian Doyle, was in the West Midlands to watch proceedings play out and was particularly impressed by the performances of Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold - both of whom were awarded a match rating of eight. At the other end of the scale were Fabinho (4), Curtis Jones (6), Mohamed Salah (6) and Kostas Tsimikas (6).

We also asked you to cast your Reds ratings, which resulted in Mane and Luis Diaz being identified as the top performers and Jones, Salah and Fabinho as the trio who struggled most at Villa Park.

Below is how ECHO readers rated the players:

Mane 8.1, Diaz 7.4, Van Dijk 7.1, Alisson 7, Henderson 6.9, Alexander-Arnold 6.9, Thiago 6.8, Tsimikas 6.4, Jota 6.1, Keita 5.5, Jones 5.4, Salah 5.4 , Fabinho 5.

What everyone else said

The Daily Express handed out low ratings across the board, with Tsimikas and Virgil van Dijk both receiving ratings of five while Fabinho was handed a four.

Elsewhere, the i had the opposite opinion of Tsimikas and Van Dijk as the duo ranked highly with eights. Alexander-Arnold, Diaz and Mane also collected the same score.
