When it comes to naming a baby, parents must consider how their choice will impact their child in the future before registering it. But even when they think they've made the right decision, there can still be doubts.
One mum has revealed how she and her husband want to name their son Orson because it's a 'cool', 'hipster' boy's name. However, her family believe she's making a mistake by giving her son such a 'unique' name - saying it could cause him problems when he's older.
Taking to Reddit, she said: "My husband and I have decided on the name Orson. We both love it.
"My problem is that everyone, and I do mean everyone, that we’ve told has blatantly expressed disdain or downright disgust and asked why we chose that name. Grandmas, nieces, uncles -literally everyone hates it."
What do you think to the name? Let us know in the comments.
She went on to explain how she is now doubting her choice because she doesn't want her son to have "this reaction from people his whole life every time someone learns his name".
Seeking advice, she asked Reddit users: "Is it really that terrible? Should we pick something else?"
In response, one user said: "I honestly don't like it. It's not very smooth on the tongue and just doesn't provide any real positive imagery when trying to picture what an Orson would look like.
"But it's not my baby so I think you should do what makes you happy. It's not like it's a weird ode to your favourite comic book or something where they'd be picked on non-stop over it."
Another user quipped: "'He’s Ourson, not Yorson' I’m dying, we’re probably not helping."
A third user added: "This is why we're not telling anyone our child's name until they're born. We love it and that's all that matters. I love Orson."
One more user added: "I like it! Like Orson Wells. I think it's a cool name. It reminds me of Bryson, Mason, Dawson, Carson, Anderson, Owen and Harrison."
The unique name, which has French and Latin origins, has a rather cute meaning behind it, with it referring to "bear cub."
