You've been clear that adding numbers to your defence is a priority, how close are you to that?
"We are working on more numbers, everyone is wishing to have a complete team when they are in pre-season but it almost never happens. We are working and trying to be as fast and intense on it as possible but at the same time, we are relaxed knowing what we have to offer. At the same time, we're focused on the players that are here because that is in general what's most important."
What have you seen from Raheem Sterling during his first couple of days with the squad?
"He is on an individual programme, he didn't join the team because some of the team are two weeks ahead of him with training sessions, double training sessions, and there are intense training sessions ahead of him.

"It is not the moment that he joins full team training in every minute on the pitch. We will see what happens but it is pretty obvious what he delivers and that's exactly what you see on the pitch. I have a feeling that he is absolutely happy to be here. It's a new chapter for him and I feel he is ready to fulfil this chapter in his career.
"They are relaxed first days on an individual programme, which is pretty demanding but on a different level to the others. He will join the training from today (Friday) but he is not there yet."
Will Raheem Sterling feature in the friendly against Club America and what's the injury that Armando Broja has suffered in training?
"He had a little accident yesterday in training with the ball control and landed in a funny way on his ankle and Achilles. He is in pain but nothing is injured – we did the examinations and it's just pain. He is lucky that he did not get injured. We are lucky and happy that he did not injure himself.
"He is not in training and he is in treatment, Armando. For Raheem, we have not decided the line up but he did not train every minute with the team so it is not very likely that he will play."
Did you consider signing Cristiano Ronaldo this summer?
"He is a fantastic player and a fantastic player for a fantastic club in our competition, the Premier League. So out of respect, we don't comment on these players because we don't like other coaches speaking about our players. So this is where this has to stay. We focused on our top target, Raheem Sterling, that we could sign and everything else stays behind closed doors."
What do you know about the Mexican league?
"Not so much to be honest. The interest in general in Mexican football comes from individual players. There have been many players in the German Bundesliga who have made their name, many players who have had big careers abroad. So we are aware of individual quality and enthusiasm.
"We are aware of the importance of the international team of Mexico and how strong and competitive they are at every World Cup. I do not have a full overview of the Mexican league but we have analysed the opponent and looked at the opponent. But pre-season is to look at us and give our players and situation the full support and focus.
"Club America are already playing in their league so they are in a different physical situation to us. They are normally very physical, very aggressive, with big names and personalities. So let's see how this will work out, but we expect an intense match."
Are you disappointed with the news Nathan Ake is saying at Man City, and West Ham have made a bid for Armando Broja, is he part of your plans or will this be a bid Chelsea consider?
"Armando is our player first of all and we have, at the moment, no interest in selling him. He is here to make an impression after he was on loan in Southampton. That's his situation from where we look up front. It's good if there's interest as it shows us there's talent and potential.
"It shows us that Armando is in the position to impress and become a Chelsea player. When will he become a Chelsea player? Nobody knows but hopefully as soon as possible. He got injured and there's a delay for him, which is never nice because a young player should normally make an impression from the first minute in pre-season. Now we have a bit of a delay in that but that's the situation.
"With Nathan Ake, it's the same as Ronaldo. We will not comment even though it was a nice try."
Given we are in Las Vegas, will the players be given time to enjoy themselves?
"I think you will see maybe some players tomorrow after the match. Before the match, it's the moment to focus and stay together as a team and take it seriously. We don't have that many matches and when we wear a Chelsea shirt, we are obliged to our goals, the demands of ourselves and the supporters to give our very best.
"This is what it is when you play and work for Chelsea. Until tomorrow evening, we are focused and do everything to prepare for the match in the next possible way. Then we have the flight to Orlando the next day and there will be some private time for the players."
How important is it for the young players here to make an impression and try to copy what Trevoh Chalobah did last summer?
"He is the role model. He came, took his chance, and started in the Super Cup last season. This is what it's all about. You can discuss and make plans for all these players but they are not worth the paper that you write on because they can change every minute, any training session. You have to simply be ready.
"I think all the players that come from loan or different situations and want to make a statement here, they are more than invited and supported. We are open, but they are well aware the task is very high because the group is competitive and the group is strong. And still I feel everyone is proud to be back, proud to be in the Chelsea squad, and from there they are responsible for their own career and they have our support."
