Remorseless child killer Thomas Cashman has started his life sentence for shooting dead nine-year-old schoolgirl Olivia Pratt-Korbel. Cashman was found guilty last Thursday (March 30) of murdering Olivia, who was shot dead in her own home.
Cashman, 34, of Grenadier Drive in West Derby, refused to appear in the dock for sentencing today (Monday April 3) with Professor John Cooper KC, defending, saying his client was "concerned the matter was turning into a circus" and claiming he had heard representatives of the Crown Prosecution Service "loudly" singing 'We are the Champions' after the verdict was delivered.
Justice Amanda Yip described his actions as "disrespectful to the family of the deceased" as she sentenced Cashman, 34, to life imprisonment with a minimum jail term of 42 years. Gasps were heard among Olivia's family as the sentence was passed with one man heard to say "yes", while her mum Cheryl was seen dabbing her eyes with a tissue.
