Every player Victor Orta has signed at Leeds United, how they did and where they are now

Leeds United's sporting sirector Victor Orta has been reportedly discussed as a potential hire for fellow Premier League club Chelsea after their main target Christoph Freund decided to stay at Red Bull Salzburg.

The Spaniard has been at Elland Road since the summer of 2017 and has teamed up with multiple managers to find the right signings for the Whites to succeed.

Under his guidance, Leeds found promotion back to the Premier League and have looked competitive in the years they've been back in the English top-flight under Marcelo Bielsa and now Jesse Marsch.

Here is every signing Orta was involved in, how they did in a Leeds shirt and where they are now...

Under Thomas Christensen

1. Madger Gomes (Signed from Liverpool U23s - Free) - 30/06/2017

Madger Gomes arrived from Liverpool U23s with high hopes after some impressive performances in the Premier League 2 but ultimately amounted to only two EFL cup appearances where he picked up a yellow card in both.

After Gomes left Leeds for Deportivo Alaves B in Spain a year later, he joined Doncaster Rovers before joining Crewe Alexandra. When released by Crewe in July 2022, he has been without a club since.

2. Hadi Sacko (Signed from Sporting B - £1.5m) - 30/06/2017

After a good loan spell with the Whites in the previous season, Sacko was signed on a permanent deal but like Gomes, couldn't make his impact felt.

He was sent out on loan to La Liga 2 side Las Palmas and then to Turkish Super Lig side Ankaragucu where he now plays for TFF First League club Adanaspor.

3. Mateusz Klich (Signed from FC Twente - £1.5m) - 30/06/2017

Mateusz Klich has arguably been one of Victor Orta's best signings as sporting director of Leeds. Since joining the Whites, he's made 186 appearances, scoring 24 goals and finding 21 assists.

Ten of those 24 goals came in his best season in a Leeds shirt, back in the 2018/19 season where he managed 10 goals and nine assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.

So far this season, Klich has found two goals in Leeds' EFL match against Barnsley and will look to continue their good start in the Premier League campaign.

4. Felix Wiedwald (Signed from Werder Bremen - £450th) - 30/06/2017

Only at Leeds for a year, Wiedwald kept 12 clean sheets in 30 games for the Whites in the 2017/18 season before leaving for Eintracht Frankfurt after a number of high-profile errors.

Since then, he's been to Eredivisie side FC Emmen and Bundesliga 2 club SV Sandhausen but is now without a club.

5. Vurnon Anita (Signed from Newcastle United - Free) - 05/07/2017

Another player that spent just a season at Elland Road, Vurnon Anita played 22 games for the Whites and his contract was terminated in September 2019.

Anita now plays for Eredivisie club RKC Waalwijk, having made 70 appearances for them in all competitions, scoring 2 goals and managing five assists.

6. Caleb Ekuban (Signed from Chievo Verona - £500,000) - 10/07/2017

After an impressive youth career at Chievo Verona which saw him likened to Mario Balotelli, Ekuban scored only two goals for Leeds in his one season with the club.

However, since then he has impressed in the Turkish Super Lig for Trabzonspor, scoring 29 goals for them, before moving to Genoa who are currently in the Serie B this season.

7. Samu Saiz (Signed from Huesca - £3m) - 12/07/2017

Over his season-and-a-half with Leeds, Samu Saiz put up good numbers. 10 goals and 12 assists in 58 games across all competitions for the attacking midfielder means he's still fondly remembered by some fans today.

In December 2018, he was loaned back to Getafe, one of his former clubs, before leaving in the summer to Girona FC where he still plays today.

8. Ezgjan Alioski (Signed from FC Lugano - £2.25m) - 12/07/2017

The North Macedonia international was famous for his discipline issues during his time at Elland Road, but was also known for his goalscoring abilities as a left-back.

22 goals and 19 assists in 171 games for Leeds from left-back are great statistics and Alioski was a staple of the squad that gained promotion back to the Premier League in 2020.

He moved to Saudi Arabia to play for Al-Ahli where he managed six goals and nine assists last year and is on loan at Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Super Lig this season.

9. Matthew Pennington (Loan from Everton) - 18/07/2017

In his one season with Leeds, Pennington played in 24 Championship games while picking up four yellow cards. Pennington went back to Everton where he played in a few Premier League 2 matches.

He then went to loan to Ipswich Town, Hull City and now plays for Shrewsbury Town in League 1.

10. Ouasim Bouy (Signed from Juventus - Free) - 31/07/2017

Ouasim Bouy is the first player on this list to have not made a single appearance for Leeds while being a Leeds player.

After loan spells with Cultural Leonesa and PEC Zwolle, Bouy was released by Leeds in May 2021 and most recently played a game for Al-Kharaitiyat SC in the Qatar Stars League.

11. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Loan from Manchester United) - 06/08/2017

Borthwick-Jackson only played six times for Leeds in the 2017/18 season, with four of his appearances coming in the deep EFL Cup run that year.

Since his loan spell, he's left Manchester United to play for Scunthorpe United, Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic on loan before a permanent move to Oldham in 2020. Since 2021, he's played for Burton Albion in League One.

12. Jay-Roy Grot (Signed from NEC Nijmegen - £1.5m) - 23/08/2017

Joining Leeds United as a 19-year-old, Jay-Roy Grot struggled to find his feet in English football due to homesickness and fan backlash after his poor start to the season.

The Whites loaned him back to the Netherlands where he played for VVV-Venlo and Vitesse before signing for VfL Osnabruck in February 2021. In the summer of 2021, he signed with Danish Superliga club Viborg FF.

13. Andy Lonergan (Signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers - Free) - 26/08/2017

This was Lonergan's second spell with Leeds after his time with the club during the 2011/12 season. His second spell only lasted one season where he conceded 17 goals in nine games and was released at the end of the season.

He then signed to Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Stoke City, West Brom and Everton, where he now sits, all in a period of three years.

14. Pierre-Michel Lasogga (Loan from Hamburger SV) - 30/08/2017

The German joined on loan form the Bundesliga and made an immediate impact, scoring twice in his debut against Burton Albion. Over the course of the season, he scored 10 goals in the Championship before returning to Germany.

After another year with Hamburger, he moved to Qatar to sign for Al-Arabi SC and now plays for Al-Khor SC.

15. Pawel Cibicki (Signed from Malmo FF - £1.4m) - 30/08/2017

After making 10 appearances for Leeds, Cibicki was sent out on loan at Norwegian club Molde FK, Swedish club IF Elfsborg, Dutch side ADO Den Haag and Polish top-flight side Pogon Szczecin.

However, Cibicki's career was cut short due to match fixing allegations of which he was proven guilty and sentenced to a four-year ban from all football activities by the Swedish FA in 2021. He appealed the decision but it was upheld by the Swedish Supreme Court.

16. Yosuke Ideguchi (Signed from Gamba Osaka - £500,000) - 08/01/2018

Signing to the Whites on a four-year deal, Ideguchi wouldn't make a single appearance in a Leeds shirt wand was immediately loaned out to Leeds feeder team Cultural Leonesa. On his return, he was loaned out to Bundesliga 2 side Greuther Furth by Marcelo Bielsa.

After the loan move to Germany, he returned to Gamba Osaka before moving to his current club Celtic in December 2021 where he's found limited minutes.

17. Laurens De Bock (Signed from Club Brugge - £1.5m) - 09/01/2018

De Bock made seven appearances for Leeds, all in the second half of the 2017/18 Championship season before he was sent on four different loan moves.

He was first sent to Belgian First Division side Oostende, then to League One Sunderland, Dutch Eredivisie club ADO Den Haag and then finally to Belgian First Division club Zulte Waregem where he signed a permanent deal. He now plays in the Greek Super League for Atromitos.

18. Adam Forshaw (Signed from Middlesbrough - £4.5m) - 17/01/2018

Adam Forshaw is a Leeds player whose time with the club has been marred with injuries - by January 2021, he had spent more games out with injury than he'd played for the Whites.

However, in the games he has played, Forshaw has proved himself to be capable as any other in his 82 appearances in all competitions, with his Leeds contract set to run out at the end of the 2022/23 season.

19. Sam Dalby (Signed from Leyton Orient - Free) - 22/01/2018

Dalby was just 18 when he signed from Leyton Orient and spent his first season learning under Marcelo Bielsa with the first-team but didn't record an appearance.

He'd play in a pre-season match against York City where he'd score in the 1-1 draw but would then be loaned to Morecambe before joining Watford permanently. Since then he's moved onto Scunthorpe before settling at National League Wrexham.

20. Jordan Stevens (Signed from Forest Green Rovers - Undisclosed) - 30/01/2018

Stevens only made six appearances for Leeds' senior side along with another two in the Under-21s before being sent out on loan to Swindon Town and Bradford City.

He joined Barrow on a permanent deal in August 2021 on a free transfer where he's found regular playing time under manager Pete Wild.

21. Tyler Roberts (Signed from West Brom - £2.5m) - 30/01/2018

Tyler Roberts has made 108 appearances for Leeds, scoring nine goals with 10 assists. While he initially found success in the Championship, Roberts' transition to the Premier League has been tough.

With future signings impacting his playing time along with his inability to find the net last season, he was loaned to Queens Park Rangers for the 2022/23 season.

Under Marcelo Bielsa:

22. Lewis Baker (Loan from Chelsea) - 30/06/2018

Bielsa's first signing as Leeds manager came in the form of Lewis Baker. The loanee from Chelsea only spent one season with the Whites, making 14 appearances across all competitions making just one assist in a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup first round.

Since then, he's spent seasons with Bundesliga club Fortuna Dusseldorf, current Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor and is currently at Stoke City where he regularly starts under new manager Alex Neil.

23. Leif Davis (Signed from Morecambe U-18s) - 03/07/2018

Leif Davis was only 17 when he was bought by Bielsa and was immediately sent into the club's youth academy. He made his first team debut in December 2018 against Aston Villa where he started in a 3-2 win.

He'd be with the club until their promotion to the Premier League where he'd make his top-flight in October 2020 against Manchester City. Making 14 first team appearances for the club, he was sent on loan to AFC Bournemouth in the 2021/22 season before being sold to Ipswich Town in the summer for an undisclosed seven-figure fee.

24. Jamal Blackman (Loan from Chelsea) - 15/07/2018

Jamal Blackman joined Leeds in the summer of 2018 from Chelsea and only played twice in the EFL Cup before they were knocked out by Preston North End in a 2-0 second round loss. He suffered a broken leg playing for the under-23s which brought his time at the club to an end.

Since then, Blackman was on loan at Bristol Rovers and Rotherham United before being sold to L.A Galaxy in the MLS. He then returned to England after one season to play for Huddersfield Town where he played three games before being released and signing for newly-promoted League One club Exeter City.

25. Barry Douglas (Signed from Wolves - £3m) - 27/07/2018

Barry Douglas' time at Leeds was injury-plagued but he still put up good performances when he was fully fit. Having signed from Wolves after a 14-assist season, he only found five in his entire three years with the Whites but helped the club gain promotion and win the Championship title in the 2019/20 season.

In Leeds' first season back in the top-flight, he was loaned to Blackburn Rovers before being released at the end of his contract. He moved back to Poland to play for Lech Poznan where he had won the Polish Ekstraklasa in 2014/15 before winning it again in 2021/22.

26. Jack Harrison (Loan from Manchester City) - 29/07/2018

Once the #1 draft pick in the MLS SuperDraft, Jack Harrison has enjoyed a great career so far with the Whites. After spending three seasons on loan from Manchester City, Harrison signed for Leeds permanently in 2021 and has 172 appearances so far for the club, scoring 29 goals and managing 25 assists.

Harrison famously scored the stoppage-time winner against Brentford to guarantee Leeds' survival last season, and has started this year with a goal and three assists from his first six starts.

27. Patrick Bamford (Signed from Middlesbrough - £7m) - 30/07/2018

After five years at Chelsea without a first-team appearance, Bamford was sold to Middlesbrough where he spent one season before signing for Leeds. Since signing for the Whites, he's been the main target man for them - 45 goals and 17 assists in 124 appearances across four seasons is an impressive record.

Despite being injured for most of last season, Bamford still managed two goals and two assists in nine games and will look to return to his 2020/21 form this season.

28. Izzy Brown (Loan from Chelsea) - 29/08/2018

Somehow Izzy Brown had an even more unremarkable loan spell in 2018 than fellow Chelsea teammate Jamal Blackman. Because of injuries, he only played two first-team appearances for the Whites. Over those two games, he played 11 minutes and managed to pick up a yellow card.

Since then, he's been on loan at Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday before signing for Preston North End last season. Suffering another injury, this time a ruptured Achilles, he didn't play a single game before being released with one week left in the season. He is currently without a club.

29. Kiko Casilla (Signed from Real Madrid - Free) - 16/01/2019

Signing from Spanish giants Real Madrid, Kiko Casilla was Leeds' starting goalkeeper for a majority of his time at Elland Road but his time there was marred by a racial abuse allegation from then-Charlton forward Jonathan Leko. He was charged by the FA and banned for eight games.

When Bielsa bought in Illan Meslier, Casilla became the second-choice goalkeeper and was sent on loan to La Liga club Elche CF. In the summer, Casilla's contract was terminated by Leeds with mutual consent and he now plays for Getafe CF in La Liga.

30. Mateusz Bogusz (Signed from Ruch Chorzow - £90th) - 28/01/2019

A Polish U21 international, Mateusz Bogusz has only played three first-team appearances for the Whites but is still on the club's books. He signed a new three-year deal in August 2020 and was sent on loan to UD Logrones for the 2020/21 season.

Since that loan spell finished, he's been out on loan with UD Ibiza after their promotion to La Liga where he scored four and created seven goals in the 2021/22 season.

31. Ben White (Loan from Brighton) - 30/06/2019

Before he signed for Arsenal and played for England, Ben White played an entire season under Bielsa at Leeds. In September of that 2019/20 season, he won the PFA Championship Player of the Month and would eventually win the Championship Best Young Player in December.

Playing in all 49 games that season, White won the Leeds Young Player of the season award and scored in his last game for the club in a 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic. That summer, Leeds sent in three bids for White but all three were rejected. He would eventually sign for the Gunners for £50 million.

32. Liam McCarron (Signed from Carlisle United - £260,000) - 30/06/2019

Liam McCarron signed from Carlisle United and was put straight into the youth academy where he spent his entire Leeds career. He did make one first-team appearance - coming on as an 81st-minute substitute in a 4-1 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League.

McCarron was sold to Stoke City this summer and on September 1 became the first player since 1978 to be sent on loan to Stoke's fierce rivals Port Vale.

33. Jack Clarke (Loan from Tottenham Hotspur) - 02/07/2019

Having grown up in Leeds' youth system, Clarke played 25 games in the 2018/19 season before being sold to Tottenham Hotspur and loaned straight back to the club.

However, he'd only play three games before his loan spell was ended. Since leaving the Whites, he's made appearances in the Europa League and Europa Conference League for Spurs and now plays for Sunderland in the Championship.

34. Helder Costa (Loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers) - 02/07/2019

Helder Costa's first stint with Leeds came in the form of a season-long loan move from Wolves. In 46 games, he scored five goals and created eight while wearing the number 17 shirt that had been brought out of retirement.

He'd go on to work out a permanent deal with the Whites which we'll go over later.

35. Illan Meslier (Loan from FC Lorient) - 07/08/2019

Much like Helder Costa, Illan Meslier's first season with Leeds was a season-long loan move, this time from FC Lorient. The youngster thoroughly impressed, keeping seven clean sheets in his 10 league appearances, finishing the season as the first-choice goalkeeper and signed a permanent deal that summer.

36. Eddie Nketiah (Loan from Arsenal) - 07/08/2019

Now a part of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal first-team setup, Eddie Nketiah was sent on loan to Leeds for the 2019/20 season. He made 19 appearances, scoring five goals with 1 assist, and started his final game for the Whites on New Year's Day that season.

Since then, Nketiah has made 99 first-team appearances for the Gunners scoring 24 goals and looks to be in Arteta's plans for the future.

37. Ian Poveda (Signed from Manchester City - Free) - 23/01/2020

Signed from Manchester City's U23s, Poveda impressed in his game for Leeds' own youth team and was moved up to the first team midway through the 2020/21 season. He'd feature sixteen times for the first team that year but was unable to find a goal.

He was sent on loan to Blackburn Rovers where he found three goal involvements in 10 games and is now on loan at Blackpool in the Championship.

38. Jean-Kevin Augustin (Loan from RB Leipzig) - 26/01/2020

Sent on loan from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, Jean-Kevin Augustin's time at Leeds was marred by a legal contract debate between the two clubs. He only made three appearances for the Whites, scoring no goals.

Eventually, the contract debacle was nullified when both club gave written permission to give over his registration to French Ligue 1 club Nantes FC who signed him in 2021. He now plays for FC Basel in Switzerland, while Leeds and B Leipzig await a ruling from the Court of Arbitration in Sport over whether Leeds will have to stump up a transfer fee for the flop.

39. Helder Costa (Signed from Wolves - £15m) - 30/06/2020

After signing his permanent deal, he made his Premier League debut in the first match of the season, finding an assist in a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool but would score a brace the next week to beat Fulham in a 4-3 win.

Since that season, he was sent on loan to Valencia in Spain for the 2021/22 season before being sent to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad on loan for the 2022/23 season.

40. Illan Meslier (Signed from FC Lorient - £6m) - 26/07/2020

Since replacing Casilla halfway through the 2019/20 season, Meslier has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the Whites following their promotion to the Premier League.

In 79 top-flight games, he's managed 17 clean sheets while conceding 140 goals and became the first goalkeeper under the age of 21 to keep 11 clean sheets over one season in 2021.

41. Joe Gelhardt (Signed from Wigan Athletic - £900th) - 09/08/2020

Signing a four-year deal form Wigan in 2020, Gelhardt impressed in the Premier League 2 for the U-21s scoring 18 goals in 28 games before being moved up into the first-team.

Last season, he scored twice in the Premier League along with five assists in 20 games, whilst also scoring seven goals with one assist for the U-21s.

42. Rodrigo Moreno (Signed from Valencia - £27m) - 28/08/2020

A club record fee was paid for Rodrigo's services and he hasn't disappointed. 21 goal involvements in 68 games for the Spanish international over the last two seasons are good numbers and his start to this season has been even better.

Despite a dislocated shoulder, he's managed four goals and an assist in his first five games and will look to continue the best start to a season he's had in his career.

43. Robin Koch (Signed from SC Freiburg - £13m) - 28/08/2020

Across 87 games for SC Freiburg, Robin Koch scored five goals but hasn't scored once in 45 games for his current club Leeds. The centre-back did suffer a knee injury midway through his debut Premier League season which saw him miss three months after surgery.

44. Diego Llorente (Signed from Real Sociedad - £18m) - 23/09/2020

Bielsa's penultimate signing, Diego Llorente is something of a goalscoring centre-back. Eight goals from the position for his former club Real Sociedad, and he scored three goals last season for the Whites.

Although he's had a rough start to this season, the Spanish international has the ability, has proven it in the league and will look to help Marsch's men continue their good start to this year's campaign.

45. Raphinha (Signed from Stade Rennais - £17m) - 04/10/2020

Bielsa's final transfer was Brazilian winger Raphinha - an absolutely instrumental part of their survival last season. 17 goals and 12 assists in 67 games for the Whites over two seasons are good numbers and he'd top the goalscoring charts for the club last season with 11 goals.

He was, of course, sold to FC Barcelona during the summer transfer window for a reported fee of £50 million meaning Leeds certainly got their money's worth when signing the now-25-year-old.

Under Jesse Marsch:

46. Brenden Aaronson (Signed from Red Bull Salzburg - £24.5m) - 26/05/2022

The first transfer under Marsch, Brenden Aaronson has made his impact felt in his early Leeds career. The young American has played each game this season and scored in Leeds' 3-0 win against Chelsea.

The 21-year-old already has 21 appearances for his national side with six goals and will undoubtedly be in the USA squad for the World Cup in Qatar in November.

47. Rasmus Kristensen (Signed from Red Bull Salzburg - £10m) - 08/06/2022

The Danish international has slightly struggled to adjust to English football after impressing in Austria and he's been caught out too many times so far this season.

With Luke Ayling out at the start of the year from a knee surgery, it was Kristensen's chance to really solidify his spot in the starting XI but has been unable to do so before the international break.

48. Marc Roca (Signed from Bayern Munich - £10.5m) - 17/06/2022

Roca has thoroughly impressed under Marsch so far this season, going down as one of the best buys alongside Aaronson and Tyler Adams.

He found his first Leeds goal against Brentford in the 5-2 defeat a few weeks ago and his defensive efforts haven't gone unnoticed. His passing ability is also vital for Leeds to break down defenses.

49. Tyler Adams (Signed from Red Bull Leipzig - £15m) - 06/07/2022

The 23-year-old American has been tireless in his efforts at dominating the midfield in many of Leeds' games this season and hasn't put a foot wrong in some of them, particularly standing out against Chelsea.

He could go on to become one of the Elland Road greats with the form he's showing, constantly winning the ball back and proving his qualities.

50. Luis Sinisterra (Signed from Feyenoord - £22m) - 07/07/2022

Sinisterra has played three games and scored twice. While he didn't feature heavily to begin the campaign, in his last two games against Everton and Brentford, he's been one of the best for the Whites.

51. Joel Robles (Signed from Real Betis - Free) - 09/08/2022

Joel Robles signed from Real Betis after his contract ran out in the summer but hasn't looked been included in manager Marsch's squad as of yet.

52. Wilfried Gnonto (Signed from FC Zurich - £4m) - 02/09/2022

This 18-year-old could be something special - Italy's youngest ever international goalscorer signed with the Whites after deadline day has closed and made his first appearance in a 6-2 win over Southampton Under-21s in Leeds Under-21s Premier League 2 match.
