Every player linked with Rangers this transfer window as Gio van Bronckhorst targets reinforcements

John Souttar has been the only new arrival at Rangers so far this summer, but he certainly won't be the last.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is embarking on his first transfer window in the Ibrox hot seat as he sets about building his own squad.

With a Scottish Premiership title to regain and Champions League qualifiers to negotiate, reinforcements are needed.

Good work has been done on the contract front already, with Connor Goldson committing to another four years, while Scott Arfield and Steven Davis were both handed year-long extensions.

But fans will demand more new faces to bolster the ranks if the gers are to compete on numerous fronts next season.

Record Sport looks at every player Rangers have been linked with so far during the transfer window.

Ross Stewart

The former Ross County striker provided the goals that helped to finally fire Sunderland back to the English Championship.

Stewart netted 26 times in 53 appearances for the Black Cats, including the strike that sealed a Wembley play-off final victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

He was rewarded for his form with a first call-up to the Scotland squad, and made his international debut from the bench during last week’s 2-0 Nations League victory over Armenia.

Rangers face competition from a number of English Championship clubs in order to land Stewart as they look to add competition for Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe.

They could find themselves need fo a replacement for the Colombian, who is now in the final year of his contract and a good offer may be too tempting to turn down if the alternative is losing him for nothing next summer.

Whether Ross is the man to do that is open to debate and should Morelos move on, then moves would almost certainly be made to bring in a more like-for-like replacement.

Mateo Cassierra

It doesn't get more like-for-like than a fellow Colombian hitman.

The Sochi striker himself claimed he was on the Gers transfer radar as he looks for a way out of Russia.

Van Bronckhorst will be aware of Cassierra from his time in Holland. The front man spent two-and-a-half years with Ajax while the Ibrox boss was in charge of bitter rivals Feyenoord.

Cassiera said in a radio interview: "The manager of Rangers knows me because when I was at Ajax, he was the manager of Feyenoord.

"So there are options for me that need to be evaluated."

However, any potential deal will still have a long way to go, as the player’s agent listed a plethora of clubs he insists are interested in his client, including some of Sochi’s domestic rivals.

He told Russian media: "I am ready to name clubs that are interested in Cassierra.

"Zenit is interested in Russia. Mateo really likes that option.

"In addition to the team from St. Petersburg, River Plate and Red Star Belgrade are offering good contracts, and Olympiacos and Fenerbahce have also shown interest."

Cameron Archer

Rangers have been credited with an interest in the Aston Villa striker after he netted seven goals in 20 appearances on loan at Preston North End during the second half of last season.

The relationship with Steven Gerrard could work in their favour should they decide to make a move, but there is plenty of interest from the English Championship.

Recently relegated Watford are in contention, along with Middlesborough as they look for a player to spearhead their promotion pushes next season.

Rabbi Matondo

Reports claim that both Rangers and Celtic have neutered talks over a £3.5million move for the Wales Under 21 international.

The former Cardiff City man enjoyed a successful loan spell in the Belgian Pro League last season, scoring 10 goals in 27 outings for Cercle Bruges.

That alerted city rivals Club Bruges, as well as Belgian big boys Anderlecht.

Matondo has since returned to parent club Schalke, but remaining with the Bundesliga club seems unlikely with so many clubs keen on services.

Martin Fraisl

With Allan McGregor’s future uncertain, a goalkeeper remains on the list for van Bronckhorst and Ross Wlson.

Previously linked with Schalke’s Martin Fraisl, the Austrian is now a free agent after leaving the club under freedom of contract.

Jon McLaughlin signed a new deal last season and could yet start the new campaign as the Ibrox number one.

Robby McCrorie would be the only back up as things stand however, so another shot stopper would offer more depth between the sticks.

Rangers had scouted Vladan Kovacevic, but it;s now reported that they won’t be pursuing any interest in the Bosnia international.

Former West Brom ‘keeper Sam Johnstone’s name has also been mentioned but a number of English clubs are keen on the free agent.

Gareth Bale

This one is a long-shot.

Clubs with far deeper pockets than Rangers will be interested in the Wales talisman after he brought his nine-year stay at Real Madrid to an end this summer.

Bale is available on a free transfer, but wages would be the major stumbling block.

International teammate Aaron Ramsey was signed on loan in a blockbuster January deadline day loan deal this year, but the midfielder’s time in royal blue was underwhelming.

Bale has also been linked to boyhood club Cardiff City and after Wales booked their spot in Qatar 2022, a move close to home cold appeal.

But he refused to rule Rangers out after club legend Ally McCoist talked up a potential switch to Govan.

He said: “I want to try and play games to be as fit as I can for the World Cup. Once I get back into playing regular football, my body will get more robust and a bit better.

“It’s very difficult to get a rhythm in terms of your fitness and health when you’re in and out of a team.

“I just need to play games and I’ll be good to go.”
