The Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack Skellington in Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas (Touchstone Pictures/Disney)

The delightful clash of the macabre and the merry in Tim Burton's atmospheric The Nightmare Before Christmas is hard to beat.

The film follows Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's eminent pumpkin king, who has become decidedly jaded with the same annual routine of scaring people in the 'real world'. When Jack accidentally chances upon Christmastown, he gets a new lease of life - and plots to kidnap Santa Claus and assume his identity. A real case of 'I'm alright, Jack'!

A Muppets Christmas Carol

A Muppets Christmas Carol is a hit with all ages. (Disney)

The Muppets take on the time-honoured festive Dickens tale has charmed audiences since its release in 1992.

A Muppets Christmas Carol has Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge ( Michael Caine ). Other Muppets - Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and Sam the Eagle - are all present and correct in the story, while Scrooge receives the de rigueur visits from spirits of three Christmases - past, present and future. A wonderful tale of redemption and happiness, pitch perfect for the Christmas season.

Frozen

Disney's Frozen will warm every heart this Christmas (what's on)

Let it go, let it go ... on the television! For who doesn't enjoy a bit of Disney classic Frozen? The story tells the chilly tale of a kingdom trapped in an everlasting winter, where fearless Anna (Kristen Bell) teams up with mountaineer Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and his reindeer sidekick to hunt for Anna's sister, Snow Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel), and break her icy spell.

Their incident-laden journey leads them to encounters with an hilariously affable snowman (Josh Gad), mystical trolls and magic at every turn in an epic adventure for all the family.

Home Alone 2

Lots of fun - and Donald Trump - in Home Alone 2! (Disney)

Read all about it - Home Alone 2: Lost in New York may not be quite as good as its peerless predecessor but it's still a right hoot.

This time young Kevin McCallister ( Macaulay Culkin ) loses track of his father at the airport, and mistakenly gets on a plane headed for New York - while his family fly to Florida.

Alone but remarkably unconcerned in the Big Apple, Kevin cleverly cons his way into a room at the Plaza Hotel but it isn't long before his old enemy the Sticky Bandits (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) turn up and start wrecking his life. Festive fun with a few dark turns that should keep the family entertained.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is coming to Disney Plus - you Groot-y! (Disney)

It wouldn't be Christmas without the odd surprise gift - which is why Disney is dishing up a new instalment in the Marvel Cinematic universe - The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Produced by Marvel Studios, the seasonal tale follows the Guardians as they celebrate Christmas and search for a present for their leader Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord.

There promises to be lights, presents, trees, snowflakes, candy canes, and ... Kevin Bacon? Yes, you read that correctly. Kevin Bacon is in it! The whole shebang promises to be a lot of fun, so why not join Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and others this Yuletide?

But that's not all Disney's dishing up this Christmas. Check this lot out:
