Everton vs Manchester United LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

Goalscorer: Benjamin Sesko - (Getty Images)

Everton vs Man Utd LIVE!

Manchester United's Benjamin Sesko came off the bench to score a vital goal for the second game in a row as he fired the winner in a 1-0 Premier League win at Everton on Monday. Sesko sealed an uninspiring clash in the 71st minute as he swept in a first-time shot from Bryan Mbeumo.

Victory sent Michael Carrick's United clear in fourth place in the table, three points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool. Sesko's goal was a rare moment of quality in a scrappy match in which United almost took the lead in the opening minutes when James Tarkowski cleared an Amad Diallo effort off the line.

United keeper Senne Lammens had a relatively quiet night but was called into action late on to deny teenager Harrison Armstrong before keeping out Michael Keane’s long-range effort.

Everton vs Man Utd latest updates

  • GOOD SAVE! Lammens denies Keane
  • GOAL! Sesko strokes United ahead
  • OFF THE LINE! Tarkowski clears from Amad
  • CLOSE! Dalot half-volleys wide

Neville in Carrick verdict

22:41 , Oli Gent

Gary Neville has said that Manchester United need to pursue another manager in spite of Michael Carrick’s unbeaten start as caretaker boss.

Carrick, the former midfielder, has taken the reins at Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim’s sacking in January, and he has led his old club to five wins and a draw in his first six games.

The most recent was a 1-0 win at Everton, where Benjamin Sesko netted the only goal to fire the Red Devils back into the top four of the Premier League.

However, Neville insisted that United must still look elsewhere for candidates to fill their head coach position come the end of the campaign.

'Palmer to force Man Utd move'

19:40 , Oli Gent

Chelsea star Cole Palmer will try to force a move to boyhood club Manchester United.

That is according to England legend Emile Heskey, who believes the Manchester-born star is good enough to step into Bruno Fernandes’ shoes should the current captain leave.

Palmer has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months, amid unconfirmed reports that he wants to move back up north after finding it hard to settle in London.

Heskey believes Palmer is among the elite players in the game who can play for any European giant, and name-checks Spanish giants Barcelona.

Van der Sar issues Carrick verdict

19:10 , Oli Gent

As for Everton...

19:05 , Oli Gent

A strange looking back four from Moyes this evening, with former United midfielder James Garner crowbarred in at right-back, and natural centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, a former United transfer target, at left-back.

That leaves Michael Keane and James Tarkowski as the two centre-backs, with Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko on the bench as the Toffees’ two full-back options.

Young winger Harrison Armstrong gets the nod over big-money signing Tyler Dibling, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall continues as the No10 in place of the injured Jack Grealish.

Man Utd team analysis

18:57 , Oli Gent

So it’s as you were for Carrick, with just the one change to his line-up.

It’s Yoro in for Martinez, and the young Frenchman partners Harry Maguire at the back.

Otherwise, it’s routine across the park - Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo have struck have a good partnership in the engine room - and Amad and Matheus Cunha are likely to interchange flanks in support of Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo through the middle.

Benjamin Sesko remains on the bench despite his goalscoring returns recently, while Joshua Zirkzee is the only other attacking change available to Carrick.

Man Utd lineup

18:50 , Oli Gent

Man Utd XI: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Yoro, Shaw; Mainoo, Casemiro; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo

Martinez out!

18:25 , Oli Gent

Big bit of news ahead of kick off and teams here.

Lisandro Martinez is out of this game for United, with a suspected calf injury, according to The Athletic.

He has started the Red Devils’ last nine games but will not feature here.

He has been on the comeback from his ACL injury that he suffered in February last year, returning in November.

Head to head

18:17 , Oli Gent

Everton are seeking a first Premier League double over Manchester United since 2014 after winning the reverse fixture, with 10 men, at Old Trafford earlier in the season thanks to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s goal.

Everton wins: 72

Manchester United wins: 96

Draws: 48

Standard Sport prediction

18:07 , Oli Gent

Both teams will be fresh having not played since February 10 as a result of being eliminated from the FA Cup at the third round stage.

Everton are struggling at home, failing to win any of their last six in all competitions and that should offer encouragement to United on their first visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

These are the games United need to win if they’re to remain favourites for a Champions League spot and we expect the momentum gained under Carrick to continue here.

Manchester United to win, 3-1.

Man Utd team news

17:57 , Oli Gent

As for United, Mason Mount is still out after missing the last three games with a knock. The midfielder was pictured reporting for training early last week but remains unavailable for selection.

Matthijs de Ligt also remains out with a back injury which has kept him on the sidelines since the end of November.

Patrick Dorgu is out with a hamstring injury sustained in the 2-1 win over Arsenal last month, with reports suggesting that he is not due back until April at the earliest.

Everton team news

17:47 , Oli Gent

David Moyes has a near full-strength squad to choose from ahead of a reunion with his former club.

Jack Grealish, on loan from Manchester City, is sidelined after undergoing foot surgery and is not expected to play again this season.

Jake O’Brien is suspended after being sent off in the 2-1 home defeat by Bournemouth in Everton’s last outing prior to the FA Cup break.
