Super-sub Benjamin Sesko struck from the bench for the third time in four matches as Manchester United scored the winning goal against the run of play to beat Everton in the Premier League and continue their unbeaten run under Michael Carrick.
Striker Sesko was sent on by Carrick as United and Everton were locked in a goalless stalemate at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, only for the Slovenian to finish off a ruthless counter-attack in the 72nd minute that was sparked by Matheus Cunha and also involved fellow new signing Bryan Mbeumo.
United are now unbeaten in six games under interim boss Carrick - winning five and drawing one - as they moved three points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool in the race for fourth place. Sesko rescued a point in their last outing, a 1-1 draw at West Ham, and also score in added time in the 3-2 win over Fulham.

What next for Everton?
05:00 , Jamie BraidwoodAfter seven home games without a win, it might come as a relief to Everton that they go away to Newcastle on Saturday.
After that, the host strugglers Burnley on Tuesday.
What's next for Manchester United?
04:00 , Jamie BraidwoodMichael Carrick’s side host Crystal Palace on Sunday - the Eagles will be playing in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
Then, there’s a short turnaround before Manchester United go to Newcastle on Wednesday.
Michael Carrick 'delighted' with 'immense' goalkeeper Senne Lammens
03:00 , Jamie BraidwoodMichael Carrick tells BBC Match of the Day: “He made a couple really good saves, he looked calm and composed in a tough environment. A lot of corners coming in under his crossbar, didn't get flustered, took some good chances and clean hands. He was immense for us tonight.
"I'm delighted with the result and spirit, the boys digging deep and sacrificing for each other. Results wise it's been good, But there is still much to come from us.”

Senne Lammens on defending Everton's corners and set-pieces
02:00 , Jamie BraidwoodPlayer of the match Senne Lammens tells Sky Sports: “Everton are a physical team, their defenders are really big, We knew the corners and set pieces would be difficult, It's a strength of mine, but today it was a bit over the top! I had to be behind the line in order to come out. It was too much, but it can be difficult for the referee to see it.
"Sometimes you can't be thinking too much about players around you, because then you aren't thinking about the ball. My defenders can cerate space for me, so I have opportunity to come and punch the ball away. But it is getting more and more difficult.”
Everton had 10 corners tonight; Lammens kept his first away clean sheet in the Premier League

Sesko: 'We were fighting. It was a 50-50 battle'
01:00 , Jamie BraidwoodBenjamin Sesko tells Sky Sports: "It was really important for us to win this game. It was really difficult. We were fighting. They were fighting. It was a really 50-50 battle but we managed it until the end and secured the win.
"For me, it's important whenever I come on to try and help the team. That is why I'm here. Whether that is five minutes or 90 minutes, it doesn't really matter. It's about showing I can deliver if I possibly can and I'm really happy with that."
Man United 'virtually a guarantee' to qualify for Champions League
00:00 , Jamie BraidwoodPerhaps some mind games from Liverpool great Jamie Carragher here?
He believes Manchester United are “virtually a guarantee” to finish in the Champions League places come the end of the season, as he sees Liverpool and Chelsea dropping more points.
He tells Sky Sports: "Aston Villa look like they're dropping points at the moment. They've got the European football on a Thursday night. Liverpool and Chelsea are both still in the Champions League and the FA Cup, and will want to do well in at least one of those competitions - a semi-final or a final.
"I can't see Manchester United not making it."

Michael Carrick on Manchester United's 'massive' win at Everton
23:30 , Jamie BraidwoodMichael Carrick, speaking to Sky Sports:
"We had the first four games and the first four wins in a row and some really good performances in there. I expected a period where we would have to find ourselves a little bit and get a result. We did it to a point at West Ham and we did it today.
“That spirit, sacrifice and willingness to work for each other as a team. The way we had to defend our box together at the end of the game. In the end a clean sheet and massive win for us.
"It didn't come easy for us tonight. I've never had an easy game against Everton. It was one of those nights for us. We had to dig deep. It was a hit of a struggle at times but those are the best ones to win."

'Today was about the hard work': Lammens on United's win
23:00 , Jamie BraidwoodManchester United’s goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been named player of the match tonight, which says a lot about how well he stood up to Everton tonight as well as their overall performance.
"Today was about the hard work, defending together. We know we didn't do our best, especially first half, it was difficult,” Lammens told Sky Sports.
"We have to be better on the ball but if we defend well, don't give balls away then we have the players up top to make the difference.”

Michael Carrick on Benjamin Sesko needing 'patience'
22:40 , Jamie BraidwoodMichael Carrick says Benjamin Sesko is having to show “patience” as he battles to earn a starting spot at Manchester United but is delighted with the impact he is having from the bench.
"He's in a good place at the moment,” Carrick told Sky Sports. “We've had some really good talks about it. Patience is one thing from him. Waiting and developing as a player here.
"He understands that. He's going to be a big player for us for a long period of time, I'm sure of that. We've got to manage that. We've got some top forward players. He's made a big difference for us when he is on the pitch."
'I believe in me': Benjamin Sesko on winning goal
22:20 , Jamie BraidwoodThere will be a lot of calls for Benjamin Sesko to start for Manchester United, but his impact is certainly working for Michael Carrick’s side at the moment.
"I believe in me and so do the other players as well,” he tells Sky Sports.
“They know what they are going to get when I arrive in the game. It's up to me to deliver of course."

Man United are transformed under Michael Carrick and Benjamin Sesko proves it
22:10 , Richard JollyWhen Manchester United were looking for a saviour this season, they opted not to revert to their greatest super-sub. They may not have Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the dugout but they seem to have his successor in spirit on the pitch. Benjamin Sesko is yet to start a game under Michael Carrick but he has come off the bench to score three times, all significant, delivering an extra five points.

More home blues for Everton and David Moyes
22:01 , Jamie BraidwoodOoof. Back-to-back home defeats for Everton; no home win in seven.
They were the better team tonight until Sesko’s goal without really threatening United.
David Moyes’s side remain ninth.
'Another sign of the turnaround under Michael Carrick'
21:59 , Richard JollySo now Michael Carrick has 16 points from a possible 18. And United, who lost to Everton under Ruben Amorim, have beaten them under Carrick.

Everton 0-0 Man Utd
21:05 , Jamie BraidwoodWe’re back underway. Everton do the old up and under to get us going, booting it into United’s half.
HALF TIME! Everton 0-0 Man Utd
20:59 , Jamie Braidwood"Manchester United need a rocket,” says Gary Neville on Sky Sports.
“They have been really sluggish in the last 25 minutes of this half."

HALF TIME! Everton 0-0 Man Utd

Pickford is very sharp off his line to cut it out.

Everton 0-0 Man Utd
20:42 , Jamie Braidwood42 mins: United’s best period of the game was the first 10 minutes. It’s been pretty poor stuff from them since and Everton are growing into it. Garner wins a corner to huge roars...
Everton 0-0 Man Utd
20:40 , Jamie Braidwood39 mins: SAVE! Garner tries his luck from a long-range free-kick. It’s a decent effort, rising and then dipping up and over the wall. But fairly comfortable for Lammens.

Everton 0-0 Man Utd

Everton 0-0 Man Utd

Everton are just clearing their lines and offering little else, at the moment.
Everton 0-0 Man Utd
20:19 , Richard Jolly17 mins: Interesting to see Jarrad Branthwaite at left-back tonight for Everton, towering over his immediate opponent, Amad Diallo. United bid for Branthwaite in the summer when they signed two other centre-backs, in Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.

Everton 0-0 Man Utd
20:05 , Jamie Braidwood4 mins: CLOSE! Mbeumo volleys the ball back across and it breaks to Cunha. It looks to be blocked by his own player, in Diallo, before Pickford is forced into a low save! Everton then scramble clear.
Everton 0-0 Man Utd
20:03 , Richard Jolly2 mins: United have Bryan Mbeumo up front and Matheus Cunha on the left whereas it can be the other way around. Harrison Armstrong is on the left for Everton, with Iliman Ndiaye on the right, though the Senegalese's best position may be on the left.
KICK-OFF! Everton 0-0 Man Utd
20:01 , Jamie Braidwood1 mins: Wow, goalkeeper Lammens is almost caught by Barry, who charges down his clearance from kick-off!
That could have been a goal, but it dribbles behind for a goal kick.

Michael Carrick on Lisandro Martinez injury
19:53 , Jamie BraidwoodManchester United boss Michael Carrick did not seem too concerned by Lisandro Martinez’s injury, with the defender expected to be out for one-two weeks with a small calf complaint.
"He picked up something during the week. It doesn't seem too bad at all,” Carrick told Sky. "We're working through that at the moment. He's not available tonight. Leny Yoro has done well, he comes in and we move forward.”

Michael Carrick forced into change - will it work?
19:45 , Richard JollyFor just the second time, Michael Carrick makes a change to his Manchester United starting 11, with Lisandro Martinez injured and replaced by Leny Yoro.
Carrick played under David Moyes for United and Moyes is looking for a double over his former club with something of a makeshift side.
James Garner will be at right-back in a side with no specialist full-backs - Jarrad Branthwaite will play on the left - and it looks like Harrison Armstrong will be on one wing. We have to see which.
Home blues? Everton still adjusting to new ground
19:30 , Jamie BraidwoodAfter last weekend’s last collapse at home to Bournemouth, Everton have lost five of their last nine Premier League home games - as many as they had in their previous 28.
They started this Premier League season unbeaten in four at home - but have lost three of their last five, drawing the other two.
Captain fantastic? Fernandes looks to continue away form

Can Everton do the double over Manchester United?
19:01 , Jamie BraidwoodAfter winning at Old Trafford, Everton are bidding to completing the double over Manchester United for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
The United manager that season? You might remember David Moyes being haunted by the grim reaper during his last defeat as United boss.

Hello and welcome
17:00 , Jamie BraidwoodMichael Carrick will look to get his side back to winning ways as Manchester United travel to Everton in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have enjoyed an unbeaten start to life under interim boss Carrick but the former midfielder saw his 100 per cent record come to an end against West Ham last Tuesday.
They now return to action against the Toffees looking to keep up the pace in the race for Champions League qualification, after Chelsea dropped points against Burnley and Liverpool won late at Nottingham Forest.
Everton, meanwhile, will hope for a repeat of their heroics earlier in the season which saw Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s goal prove enough to snatch all three points at Old Trafford, despite post-match focus being on Blues infighting between teammates Michael Keane and Idrissa Gueye.
