Everton's path to Premier League safety became clearer after Nottingham Forest earned a vital point, drawing 2-2 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Taiyo Awoniyi and Raheem Sterling netted braces for Forest and Chelsea respectively. The draw leaves Steve Cooper's side two points above 17th-placed Everton, who have played one match fewer, and three points above 18th-placed Leeds United, who moved up into the third and final relegation place after drawing 2-2 at home to Newcastle United in the day's early kick-off.
The Blues' game in hand on Forest and Leeds comes on Sunday when they welcome league leaders Manchester City to Goodison Park.

Forest flew out of the blocks against a Chelsea team managed by former Everton boss Frank Lampard and took the lead after just 13 minutes played, with Awoniyi netting his first of the afternoon, rising well to nod his side in front.
Sterling then netted twice in seven second-half minutes to fire the hosts ahead. But their lead didn't last long, with Awoniyi again scoring, after a lengthy VAR check for a potential offside in the build-up was turned down.
Elsewhere, basement boys Southampton lost 2-0 at home to Fulham to confirm their relegation.
Leicester City, who are now second from bottom, return to action on Monday when they host Liverpool.
