Jordan Pickford 5
Could only watch on in awe like the rest of us for Ilkay Gundogan’s opener but will be disappointed that despite getting a hand to it, he couldn’t keep out Erling Haaland’s header for the second while he was well-beaten by Gundogan’s free-kick for the third.
Nathan Patterson 5
Kept tabs on City’s creative forces for the first half an hour but was undone by Gundogan for the opener and then allowed the German to get past him and deliver the cross for the second from Haaland.

Mason Holgate 4
Another nightmare display for him under Sean Dyche as playing out of position at left-back, City ruthlessly exploited him with Haaland beating him to the header for the second goal and the defender earlier spurning a chance from close range when the game was goalless before getting hooked before the hour mark.
Yerry Mina 5
It was hoped that he might be able to get under Erling Haaland’s skin but after an encouraging return at Brighton & Hove Albion, this represented falling back to earth with a bump as he couldn’t get close enough to City’s main men.
James Tarkowski 5
His header teed up Holgate with his chance at 0-0 but, like the rest of Everton’s defence, he found himself pulled apart by City and you’d have rather seen him challenging Haaland for his headed goal than Holgate.
Idrissa Gueye 5
Diligently provided a barrier in front of his back four for the first 37 minutes but that work quickly went out of the window with the visitors’ quickfire double and after City added a third soon after the restart, Dyche chose to save the veteran midfielder’s legs for another day.
James Garner 6
Another neat and tidy display, albeit in difficult circumstances but it was his foul on Phil Foden – which earned him a booking – that resulted in the free-kick that produced City’s third goal.
Abdoulaye Doucoure 6
Was one of the Everton crowd’s more inspirational figures when the game was in the balance with the home supporters appreciating his hard-running and attempts to support Dominic Calvert-Lewin but there was no space to exploit here like at the Amex Stadium.
Alex Iwobi 6
Lots of energy but that’s a minimum requirement from him and while he tried to get the ball forward in the early stages, a change in formation saw him moved centrally without much reward.
Dwight McNeil 7
We saw the best of him going forward at Brighton but he was forced to show his more defensive attributes here, tracking back to try and help the ailing Holgate and often covering plenty of ground to make last-ditch tackles.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin 6
Mostly feeding off scraps, he held the ball up intelligently when possible and there were more encouraging signs here but after not coming back out for the second half, nervous Evertonians will have to hope he’s being saved for the two more battles ahead.
Neal Maupay (on 46 for Calvert-Lewin) 5
Tried to add a bit of bite to Everton’s attack after the break but the game was gone and the hosts looked far more effective going forward when Calvert-Lewin had been there.
Amadou Onana (on 55 for Gueye) 6
His close range header brought an impressive save out of Ederson.
Conor Coady (on 55 for Holgate) 6
Brought on as part of a tactical reshuffle that saw Everton switch to three centre-backs, he steadied the ship somewhat for what might prove to be his last outing for the club.
Demarai Gray (on 75 for Garner)
Late cameo down the right flank.
