Everton player ratings as Jordan Pickford brilliant and five others shine against Liverpool

Jordan Pickford - 9

Pulled off an absolutely outstanding save to stop a fierce effort from Darwin Nunez finding the back of the net in the first half and continued to frustrate the visitors in the second half with fantastic stops to deny Roberto Firmino and Fabinho.

Nathan Patterson - 8

It's not an easy task to mark Luis Diaz for 90 minutes but Patterson stood up to the task extremely well. He showed a lot of the needle that's needed for a match such as this, but perhaps his final ball was just a little off in attacking areas.

Conor Coady - 7

Lead the defence very well again, constantly organising those around him and shouting instructions further up the pitch. He thought he'd put Everton in front as well but he was unlucky to have been just a slight bit offside.

YOUR SHOUT: Rate the Everton players after hard-fought derby draw against Liverpool

James Tarkowski - 8

Was asked to put in a number of defensive contributions both in the air and on the floor. He also provided a real threat in the opposing box from set pieces and won a lot of headers in those scenarios for his side.

Vitalii Mykolenko - 7

Much of Liverpool's attacking play came down the opposite flank but Mykolenko coped well with what came his way. He picked up his performance even further in the second half and particularly stopped Mohamed Salah on one dangerous counter attack.

Tom Davies - 8

Energetic and vibrant in the middle of the pitch, making sure to press high and recycling the ball well. This was a really good performance again from Davies as competition in that area of the pitch has just increased.

Amadou Onana - 8

Unlucky to have been the one selected to pick up the first booking of the game considering what had been let go beforehand, but some of his tackles and flicks from that point on were fantastic. Everton have got a player on their hands.

Alex Iwobi - 8

Again so much of Everton 's good play came through Iwobi. His high-tempo running further up the pitch is key, even if some of the decisions behind his passes in the second half especially could have been a little better.

Demarai Gray - 6

Got himself into a few dangerous areas but didn't use the ball well enough to create real chances for his teammates. Some of his decision-making at the top end of the pitch was lacking and that might have held the Blues back.

Anthony Gordon - 6

As you'd expect he got really stuck into the match and as ever his work off the ball was fantastic, but he couldn't really create much with the ball at his feet in the final third on this ocassion unfortunately. He worked tirelessly, though.

Neal Maupay - 7

Not given an easy task at all on his Everton debut but he's certainly got the energy that fans have desired, and could have scored in the first period with a half-chance that he dragged wide. And, he nearly set up a goal for Coady before he was called offside.

SUBS

Idrissa Gueye - 7

A really good return to the club with a solid performance when introduced. His signing could be very important.

Dwight McNeil - 6

Almost scored with a deflected effort shortly after coming on.
