Everton loanee Jarrad Branthwaite lifts lid on Cody Gakpo conversations after Liverpool transfer

Everton loanee and PSV Eindhoven defender Jarrad Branthwaite says he isn't surprised to see Cody Gakpo finding his feet at Anfield.

The 23-year-old swapped Eindhoven for Merseyside during the January transfer window and following his start to life in the Premier League, certain factions took aim at the Dutchman.

However, in recent weeks he has shone for Jurgen Klopp's side, breaking his duck against rivals Everton before adding three to his tally in the top-flight - including a brace during the 7-0 rout over Manchester United.

Branthwaite is currently on loan with the Eredivisie giants and is flourishing under Ruud van Nistelrooy. Gakpo was the captain of the side prior to his move at the beginning of the year.

Despite the slow start, the 20-year-old isn't surprised to see the Netherlands international starting to turn performances in for the Reds.

"I spoke to Cody a few times when he first signed [for Liverpool]," he said in an interview with the Mirror. "When I signed for Everton I was in the Titanic Hotel and I think he was staying there as well, so he was asking for a few places to go eat and things.

"He's settled into a massive club but it's no surprise for me. When he was here, the quality he had was unbelievable; his goals and assists, his passing, his dribbling - he had everything. Obviously it's gonna take a couple of months to find your feet but over the last month he's settled right in and played really well."
