The first team news of Everton’s pre-season had been announced and Jordan Pickford has been given the captain’s armband for an experimental Blues.
Pickford burnished his leadership credentials in last season’s relegation battle and was made captain for the first and only time away at Burnley.
Today he leads a side that looks set to play five at the back - just like Frank Lampard did at the end of the last campaign. Yerry Mina partners Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate at centre back.
