Everton 'interested' in signing Bundesliga defender but potential problem looms

Everton are being linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

Despite the transfer window being closed, the Blues continue to be credited with an interest in potential future targets. Everton did not make a single signing in January, leading to plenty of criticism from sections of supporters.

Even though the window does not reopen until the summer, Everton have been linked with several free agents. January saw the Blues try to bring in a new striker/forward, following the departure of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle.

However, it’s a defender that’s the subject of the latest Everton transfer rumour. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Blues are interested in signing Hincapie.

The Leverkusen centre-back is enjoying a good season in the Bundesliga. The 21-year-old also featured in all three group games for Ecuador at the World Cup in Qatar.

Despite the links, Jacobs says that Everton are unlikely to sign Hincapie in the summer. It has also been claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are also interested in signing the defender.

“Tottenham do really like Hincapie. Newcastle and Everton have him on their radar, too,” Jacobs told Caught Offside.

“I don’t see Everton being able to attract Hincapie, and if they go down there’s obviously no chance. Spurs is a better fit.”
