Everton 'interested' in £9m striker West Ham United 'turned down'

Everton are 'interested' in signing former West Ham United target Beto, according to reports in Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims the London club were keen on the striker in the summer and David Moyes 'weighed up' a move. However, the Hammers instead completed a £35m deal for Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo.

The report adds the Blues are now keen on Beto, who joined Udinese in 2021 and then spent last season on loan at Portuguese side Portimonense. He returned to Italy this summer and has so far scored four goals in his seven Serie A appearances this term.

His impressive form is said to have caught they eye of Everton, as well as German outfit Borussia Dortmund, who parted ways with Erling Haaland in the transfer window. Beto is reportedly valued at £9m, but given his start to the season and the fact he's under contract until 2026, Udinese could demand much more for the player.

The Blues added to their attacking ranks this summer, with the addition of Neal Maupay from Brighton. The 26-year-old scored his first goal for the club in the 1-0 win against West Ham before the international break.

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been sidelined for the start of the campaign with a knee injury, but could yet return against Southampton after the international break. The England international's potential involvement would be a welcome boost for manager Frank Lampard.

It remains to be seen whether Everton look to upgrade on Salomon Rondon, who has made just five appearances in all competitions this season and is out of contract at the end of the campaign.
