Everton hit by FA fine following Crystal Palace incident

Everton have been fined £20,000 by the Football Association after being charged with 'failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion' during the Premier League game at home to Crystal Palace in October.

The Toffees and Palace were both charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 for an incident that occurred in the 69th minute of what was an eventual 3-0 win for Frank Lampard's side. Patrick Vieira's team have subsequently been fined £40,000 for their role in the incident.

An FA statement read: "Everton FC and Crystal Palace FC have been fined £20,000 and £40,000 respectively for failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 69th minute of their Premier League game on Saturday 22 October 2022.

"Everton FC admitted its charge for a breach of FA Rule E20.1 and accepted the standard penalty, and Crystal Palace FC denied its charge.

"An independent Regulatory Commission subsequently found the charge against Crystal Palace FC to be proven and imposed the club’s fine, and its written reasons for these decisions can be seen below."

The charge relates to a coming together between players of both sides during the second half. With Everton 2-0 up at the time, a loose ball was contested by Anthony Gordon and Wilfried Zaha, who went through the back of the Everton winger while jumping for the ball.

Seamus Coleman and Conor Coady were both quick to confront the Ivorian, whose own team-mates then joined him.

Zaha was booked for the original challenge, while James Tarkowski and Jeffrey Shlupp each saw yellow for their respective roles in the melee that followed. Gordon and Zaha both shook hands following the incident.
