Everton FC debut joy for Northern Ireland teenager in FA Cup win

Northern Ireland football fans got a sneak peak of teenage midfielder Isaac Price on Thursday night when the 18-year-old made his first-team debut for Everton.

Price came on as a late substitute for Michael Keane as the Toffees beat Boreham Wood 2-0 in the FA Cup.

The creative midfielder is a current Northern Ireland youth international but has previously featured for England Under 15s, while he also qualifies for Germany.

After impressing with Everton's Under 18 and 23 sides, the youngster got handed his first-team chance under new manager Frank Lampard in the FA Cup last night.

It isn't the first time Price has been involved in Everton's senior squad. At the end of the 2020/21 season he was named in match day panels for games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

Price has progressed through Everton's academy ever since joining the Merseyside club at the age of seven.

The teenager, who grew up in Wakefield, signed his first professional contract for Everton in September 2020, agreeing a three-year deal until the end of June 2023.

Price has won four caps with Northern Ireland's Under 19 side after making his debut at the age in September last year. He has previously featured for the Under 17s.

In a recent interview with the official Everton website, Price outlined his key attributes and the midfielder he looks up to.

He said: “I’d say my athleticism, passing and awareness are my main strengths.

“I like to play little clever balls around the corner and help to set up attacks. But there is still a lot I need to work on and many things I need to get better sat.

“My preferred position is probably at number eight, where I can go forward, try to get in the box, but also contribute in the defensive side of the game as well.

“Frenkie de Jong is definitely someone I look up to. I like his composure on the ball and how he gets away from players. He’s always relaxed and picks out good passes – and he scores goals, too.”
