Everton defender pens emotional goodbye as summer exit confirmed

Everton defender Rikke Sevecke is set to leave the club when her contract expires at the end of the season.

The Denmark international arrived on Merseyside in the summer of 2020 from French side FC Fleury 91 and has since gone on to make more than half a century of Women's Super League appearances for the Blues. Sevecke also played a crucial role in Everton’s Women’s FA Cup campaign in 2020 where the side were narrowly beaten in the final by Manchester City at Wembley.

The 26-year-old defender has been a standout performer for Brian Sorensen's side this term however the club confirmed on Wednesday she will leave the club at the end of June.

Following the announcement, Sevecke took to social media to express her gratitude to Everton fans for their support during her three-year stay at Walton Hall Park.

Posting on Instagram, she wrote: "Evertonians, first of all I would like to say thank you! Thank you for welcoming me with open arms and for your endless support. It has been a true pleasure playing for such an iconic and historic Club as Everton.

"I’ve met so many lovely people in the last three years and definitely built friendships for a lifetime. This will be my last week as an Evertonian and I will be leaving with a bag full of great memories and moments.

"I just want to say a big thank you to everyone at and around the Club - the fans, the staff members, the volunteers and, of course, my teammates - who have made the past three years memorable."

Sevecke is one of a number of Everton players who will leave the club this summer. Defender Everton Leonie Maier is set to make a return to her native Germany, where she will join Frauen-Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, while forward Jess Park has already returned to parent club Manchester City after picking up a shoulder injury in training.

Fellow England prospects Aggie Beever-Jones and Emily Ramsey are also currently on season-long loans on Merseyside.

The Blues, who guaranteed themselves a top six finish with Sunday's last-gasp victory over Brighton, will travel to Manchester City for their final game of the season on Saturday.
