Everton and other clubs told there is 'great chance' of Jonathan David leaving Lille

Reported Everton target Jonathan David is set to leave his current club Lille next year, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees are one of several slubs said to be interested in the Canadian striker after an outstanding start to the season in Ligue 1 - David has nine goals and three assists in 12 appearances so far. Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg suggested earlier this week that Everton were 'very interested' in a deal at some point next summer.

In a potentially encouraging sign for all potential suitors, Romano has claimed that there is a 'great chance' of David leaving Lille at some point next year.

“Jonathan David, I’m told that soon, many clubs will move and there is a great, great chance for him to make his move in 2023," Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel. “Let’s see if it will be January, let’s see if it will be [in the] summer, but Jonathan David is expected to leave Lille in 2023 and many clubs are tracking him.”

David has been catching the eye of teams across the continent since his time at Belgian outfit Gent, where he joined Lille from in 2020, and, speaking to Sky Sports recently, the Canadian hinted at a potential Premier League move as he looks to make the 'next step' in his career.

“The next step is always growing, having more ambition, a bigger club I think. Every player wants to play for a massive club in their life," David said. "So I think if I had the chance to do it, I’ll go for it for sure.”

The Lille superstar added: “I think they’re two different leagues [the Premier League and La Liga]. But I think I can adapt to both for sure. And I think with the experience that I’ve had here in France, it will help me a lot if I need to adapt to some place else a lot faster.”
